So far this is my planned build -

CPU - A64 3500+ Venice Core
RAM - Twinmos TmSp 400 /OR OCZ VX 3200
GPU - ATI X800XL 256mb x16
CASE - ??? Thinking Lian-li v1000 (ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL)
PSU - Enermax 24-pin ATX 550W PSU
MOBO - DFI "Lan Party" Ultra D (Non-sli of course)
HDD - 250 GB Seagate 7200RPM HDD
HSF - Thermalright XP-120 (I will also buy a 120mm panaflo fan)
MONITOR - ??? (ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL)
MOUSE/KEYBOARD - ??? (ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL)
DVD / CD WRITER DRIVE - NEC 3250A DVD burner (from Newegg)
SOUND CARD - Sound Audigy 2 (although the n-board is supposedly great anyway )

Looking good so far - should cost around $1000-$1200 from prices I checked. Any suggestions on parts I said I needed help with, or even on parts I already have listed.

Thankyou.

For a mouse, I recommend the MX1000, if you are willing to spend that much. I have a 19" CRT monitor, the Samsung 997DF, which is really quite nice, and inexpensive.

k - I have decided on that mouse and monitor - any other suggestions and feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!

My Microsoft Intellipoint mouse that I got a while ago is the perfect one for me. :D

It is optical but not cordless (too many problems associated with those things) and has my minimum of five buttons, with one button on each side.

It looks like this: http://images.google.com/images?q=t...gic.fr/arnaud.m/pics/apps/fr/intellipoint.jpg

A lot of your components are similar to my computer that I am planning to buy. See the thread in my sig. I have no experience with the TwinMos ram, but the OCZ VX is the best :)

You may want to consider getting a DFI SLi mobo and upgrading later. Just get one PCI-E X800 whatever and down the road get another something for better performance. Or you can look into nVidia's 6800 series, the 6800GT's work well in overclocking systems, often reaching ultra speeds. And you can upgrade one by one. Also, the 6600GT is good for your money, I am planning on getting a refurbished one for $141 dollars. And you can throw it out later and get some snazzy next gen cards in 6-12 months.

Good looking PSU, HSF (the best besides water cooling I think), and HSF fan (yay for Panaflos). I can't really recommend or discredit a monitor, keyboard, DVD-writer (they are all pretty much the same), sound card, or HDD. Mostly because I don't really know what's a good deal and what isn't because I don't have much experience with high-end products of these natures. DVD drive and Keyboard shouldn't make much of a difference. Those "ergonomic" keyboards with the keys split in half would be hard for me to type on, so imho go with something cheap and classic.

CPU, I dunno, I just don't like the price of the 3500+s. I would rather go with a 3000+ or a 3200+ and OC them. There's a big price leap with not much to justify it. Good choice of Venice though.

If you get an LCD moniter make sure to check the response time. 25ms sucks. That's about all I know about what specs and LCD should have btw b/c I have a CRT. I just know that the monitor offered by the BFG double 6800GT + monitor ($999 after rebate - see Chumbo.com) deal sucks because it has a 25 ms response time. :D

-------------

That's about all I see. O yeah, case. If you don't plan on watercooling ever your options are broad. I see a lot of Lian Li V1000s on the boards, and people generally seem happy with them (unless they are watercooling, it gets a bit tight then). Make sure you have a 120mm front fan (option at least), a 120mm rear fan (fan or option for fan), and some kind of side or top ventilation, side perhaps another 120mm. In place of any of these dual 80mm slots would be ok, but not ALL of them, 120mm generally have a better sound level to amount of air pushed ratio. Panaflo are great for this, the M1A 120mm pushes simething like high 70s to 80s in cfm with only a 30-35 decibel rating. I'm not sure of the exact numbers b/c I'm don't have them in front of me and I'm too lazy to look it up.

Well, all I can say is do your research and you'll be happy. Good Luck.

you will have to get two of those, $104. I have no experience with Twinmos, so I would still get VX value.

VX value here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227213
out of stock at the moment though. It is $104.91 so the same as the twinmos.

tested VX "PC3200": http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227204
$166. The price is dropping fast. A week ago it was $183.

premium VX "PC4000": http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227206
$251

They are same chips, but when they test and get really high quality chips they put them in the DDR 500 and sell em for a lot. The value sounds ok for you. If you get DFI you will be able to give the value the 3.0-3.5V that it needs to do tight timings at high speeds. I.e. maybe 240 or 260 @ 2-2-2-6 to 2-3-3-8 or something similar. Those are possible, about average imo, results. Value is a bit of a gamble, but it is gambling between good performance for cheap or GREAT performance for cheap. I am planning to get the PC3200 rated VX myself.

But you should make your own choice.

i say twinmos over the value VX, as ocz will be taking the top binned UTT/CH-5 away from the value and putting it into the normal pc3200 and high binned pc4000 while twinmos doesn't. also, you can buy 4 sticks, do some speed binning yourself and sell the slowest two for almost as much as you got em for :D
imo, the onlt good thing about the OCZ is the warrantee :p

K - I need help on deciding on a case.

These are my 3 choices -
* Aspire X-navigator
* Antec Super Lanboy
* Thermaltake Tsunami (I am leaning towards this)

Anyone like to help me out?

dont get the tsunami, but if you want a case that size can i suggest the chenming 601 or 602, its a solid case, perfect for water cooling or any kind of cooling you do, aside from that then lian li v-1000 is good as well
on closer look the X-navigator seems to use the chenming 601 design, but aspire isnt exactly known for high quality stuff so i dunno

the antec is a pretty great case, its loosely designed around the chenming 602 design which is a great design, the two 120 mm fans are great to have as well

antec super lnaboy is a well built case, but its on the small size and fills up fast. i replaced mine with a chenming just cause i have fat fingers and couldnt reach nothin in the lanboy

I think I will get the antec super lanboy then :)

I just wanted to ask 2 questions. If I do get a HSF then it will either be and X-90 or X-120. The problem is that the X-120 is saying it is not compatible for 939 core cpu's. Is this true? It also says that it will cover the 4th memory slot on a DFI. If this is true should I get the X-90?

Thanx again :)

get an XP-90 and a Delta Triblade fan from sidewinders. the delta triblades are really good fans, and undervolt awesomely.
