I need to build a new computer. This will be my primary computer. I do not plan on gaming much but want something that at least has the power to convert video files and very occasional photoshop. I also want to watch HDTV and will add a Blu Ray later. I already have a decent sound card and awesome speakers so I want an awesome screen to go with it. I have been thinking about the HP LP2475w monitor that costs about $625 or maybe a small, comporably priced 1080p LCD HDTV that will work well with a PC. I think the monitor might be a better choice though for office work.

I do not plan to overclock. In fact, having a very quiet computer is important to me. My case has been sound dampened and I switched out all the fans and have fancy heat sinks and quiet fans on my CPU and GPU and my current setup is extremely quiet. Please keep this in mind when recommending video cards, PSUs, and CPUs and CPU coolers. I don't want anything too hot. Relatively quiet or passive heating solutions are encouraged. Was thinking about splurging for this PSU as noise is a priority:

Was also thinking about getting this CPU cooler unless the Thermalright HR-01 is going to be much better:

Thanks.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

Web Browsing, Photoshop, Video file conversion, HDTV watching (maybe recording in future), Office stuff, MAYBE gaming

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

$1500 after tax and shipping

3) Where do you live?

NC, USA

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.

Large, high quality LCD monitor, CPU, mobo, RAM, PSU, graphics card, primary HD

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

Lian Li PC-70 series case, 2x200GB WD IDE HDs, DL DVD burner, Audigy Platinum sound card, Klipsch Promedia 5.1 speakers

6) Will you be overclocking?

No

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?

24" or bigger

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

Next few months

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.

Crossfire or SLI might be nice if I decide to play more games in the future. Need IDE for my old HDs and PCI slots for my Audigy and my wireless card

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?

No.

You should replace those older IDE drives, since they will be a major bottleneck for your new build and also unwanted source of noise.

Cool, I didn't realize that an i7 build could be so economic. Is that definitely the way to go? What monitor do you guys recommend? If I waited a few months do you think I could afford to get that HP?

+1 to all that. You cannot go wrong with this build!

It is certainly a viable option now.. in a few months i would think it would become even more viable. The problem is, technology advances so quick that a few months from now, all the items will be different.

So I suggest you post again when you are ready to buy. Unless of course you are buying now, in which case +2 on that build above!!!
