My aging G9x recently bit the dust not too long ago, the mouse buttons just gave out :(

Seeing as Logitech has discontinued the G9x I would rather just get a new mouse. However, this has proved more difficult than I thought it would be. The first thing is I do not like light mice. And while I like the appeal of the Sensei series, they look too light. Every single Razer mouse I've ever tried is just too darn light. Actually even the G9x fully weighted down could stand to be heavier I thought, but it was not terrible.I would like to have adjustable DPI, but that is just more for usability reasons (jumping between gaming, browsing, and the likes). One feature that I loved from the G9x was the switchable scroll wheel operation. I absolutely loved that! The current mouse I'm using does not have that and I really do miss it. As for the way I hold the mouse I'm definitely much more in the realm of claw gripping, but I'm really more of a hybrid kind of person in that I typically move the mouse with my fingers until it reaches the edge of my palms and that tells me I have to use my wrist/arm to finish the movement. So, really the shape just has to be kind of "unobtrusive" I guess. For a quick reference in the size department, I snagged a G300 (not a terrible mouse overall, but the scroll wheel is terrible) and I can easily hold it the way I like to hold mice.

Basically, I would like a heavy mouse (either light to begin with but can be made heavier or just straight up heavy) with an unobtrusive shape that has adjustable DPI. At least at the minimum. Bonus would be getting a switchable scroll wheel. There has to be a mouse out there that I'm just not finding.

All of these have weight adjustment systems and all of them except the G500s are claw-like grip mice. They all have on-the-fly DPI adjustment. Most of them have options for the scroll wheel.

I'm no mouse expert, but I recently had the same problem with my old G9x dieing and wanted to pick something up that was a bit more competitive so I looked into mice using the ADNS-3090; needless to say I ended up with the Roccat Kone Pure optical and couldn't be happier with it (aside from the material on the sides that slips a bit with my dry hands, haha).

The best thing you can do when looking for a new mouse is to have an idea of the direction in which you want to look and keep an open mind to other brands. I was surprised to find out that Roccat is gaining popularity for their build quality since it didn't seem to be all that great when they first debuted, but I looked into newer reviews and they seem to be doing very well; the same goes for some other "newer" peripheral companies.

One thing to look for in particular is shape; try to get a hold of the mice to feel them out before you make a purchase, hardware doesn't mean much if you can't get comfortable with it. Even with a finger-tip grip (probably the most adaptable, and from the sound of it what you use as well) there are some mice that are just odd or uncomfortable for me to use.

A lot of people will argue sensors back and forth, but in reality you won't get much gain out of a "high performer" like the ADNS-3090 unless you're running highly competitive mouse heavy games; most decent and widely used sensors have more than better tracking for normal gaming and your experience with the G9x should confirm that. As long as there are no blatant issues with the hardware/firmware give it some level of consideration, don't just write it off because it's not "the best".

I know this doesn't help narrow down your consideration, but take a good look around and search forums when you find something that piques your interest.

Its highly reviewed all around the web. It comes with weights and you can make the center wheel fly. DPI is also adjustable. The software seems pretty decent. In fact I like it better than Logitech's.

My mouse is closer to a palm but the same company makes a clutch that also has weights, DPI adjust etc etc. Its also highly reviewed. I guess the German maker has been trying to make a name for themselves with high quality with value price.

Try out the Corsairs. After my MS Sidewinder died, it took me over a year to find a mouse that I actually liked. I went through Logitechs and Razers before I got a Corsair m95, love it already. BTW, Razer is junk.
 
Pulled the trigger on the Corsair M65. Overall it seemed the best fit of all the ones suggested. Hopefully it is not a terrible mouse.

Let us know what you think. I have heard a lot of good things about it and almost purchased it myself. My problem is I don't usually use a claw grip and most of those types are built more for that. I ended up going for that Logitech G500s deal, although my current G5 still works like a champ.
 
Might actually pick up a Corsair M40 or M65 too since I exclusively use a claw grip. Will hold onto my G9 until it's completely dead though.

My wife has the 1000 and my oldest will be getting the 2000 for christmas. I might look into getting the 2000 once I use it on his computer for a little while. the 1000 looks a lot like the 3000 you posted, and doesn't fit my hand all that well. Overall good mouse so far, though.
 
I like Steelseries mices. Sensei and the new Rival are pretty nice imo, you can turn off the light thanks to the tool assistant (Steelseries Engine is actually well designed).
Otherwise, depending the price, Roccat/Corsair and Mionix have really good products and feedbacks

I agree that most Razer's mouse are junk, but Mamba and Orochi has been my favorite so far.

The RAT 7 is my 2nd choice behind the G9. Luckily I saw this coming ahead of time and stocked up on 3 spare G9X MW edition mice for $30/ech.

The unfortunate reality for me was that the G9x's just didn't last. I went through a couple of them and by the time I retired them they were worn and practically falling apart. After several months of use this RAT7 has held up better than any mouse I've used. You can barely tell it's not new.
 
I have trouble adjusting, been a G9 user for 6 years! I just can't make the jump right now. I use the precision grip and it holds up really well, I just recently switched from my G9 grip to my new G9X extra precision grip because I didn't feel the need to switch yet. But the rubber wideload grip does wear out easily, I have one on my guest PC and have already had to swap it twice in 2 years.

Also I purchased 6 sets of replacement feet off Logitech before they stopped carrying them. I usually swap the feet once a year since I am using the RatPad.
 
All right so I received my Corsair M65. It is bigger than I thought it would be so it actually rests quite well in the palm, though it does have a few edges that make it slightly annoying but nothing major. At first when I took it out of the packaging I thought it was going to be too light but it turns out to be quite nicely weighted. In all honesty it is quite a nice mouse. Have no major complaints.

I've been happy with the Logitech G400's, fits my hand perfectly and well the forward and back buttons are just awesome for web surfing, and in game voice chat things like that.
 
I highly recommend the deathadder 2013 - the hype is true, it has amazing tracking. Another one I would look for in the optical department is the Steelseries Rival, it uses a pixart sensor, which I think is based off of the avago 3310 and that sensor literally has 0 acceleration, from what I read. I can't wait to get my hands on one for cheaper than MSRP

As for laser, I recommend the Mionix Naos 8200. Best implementation of the avago 9800 and probably the best implementation of a laser sensor period that I have used.
 
+1 for the deathadder 2013. It replaced my razer imperator which suddenly died and this mouse is much more accurate and comfortable. I was missing out!
 
the SteelSeries Rival looks like a good mouse, how does the size compare to the logitech 700?

piece of crap and software sucks even worse than the mouse.
Got one, software keeps resetting to stock settings, mouse is NOT designed worth a crap and overall a waste of money.
They tried to make a christmas tree and call it a mouse, again a waste of money.
I would take a Microsoft intellimouse over this any day.

the biggest problem with mice is some how they either make smaller and smaller mice, razor, or they make one with wings and lights.
I have seen sooo many people brag on their mouse even though they can't do shi# in a fps game, they spend all their time and effort trying to FIT to the mouse not the other way around.

fyi I "use" a microsoft intellimouse and a logitech 700.
both have a very good feel and work well in fps.
I bought the perixx to give it a try and ripped it out as soon as I started play on fps...the thumb rest is the pits, mainly in the way bad feel. The buttons are crisp and good clicks some of the best I have tried.
but the mouse software is junk. Half way thru a match the lights started working, even though I don't look at the mouse so its not a problem with them on...why did they turn on? then the sensitivity went bonkers and moving the mouse 1/16 of an inch thru me half way across the screen. Reboot and the software was back to stock settings with the christmas tree back, it refused to keep settings. NOTHING you should have to put up with and I didn't.

From a matchy-matchy standpoint, this was the mouse I was looking for. Atm hard to find but considering they are front and center on the Steelseries website, they will be back in stock shortly. I put in an order for one from Frys but I did notice they weren't expecting to have it shipped out til mid-month :eek:

I ordered my Rival on Amazon when they were out of stock and it showed up in a week or two. The wait wasn't too terribly long. After using it for a couple of weeks now, I wouldn't go back to using anything else. It rocks for FPS games, definitely improved my aim. I have tried about every mouse imaginable previously too so I'm pretty happy with it!!
