hey guys I want to get a MSI x48 platnum and I wanted to know if this card is a good. Card. I also wanted to know if this card works with the HD 4870 or 4850? Help me decide pls.

It's a decent board, but there's better out there. It would help if you stated your budget and your other planned system specs, so I could give you a bunch of other recommendations. Also, any motherboard with a PCI-E 16x slot will work with an HD4870 or 4850.

Get X48 if you want crossfire (ie. two 4870s), otherwise just get the P45 and save the cash. The X48s aren't worth the money if you're only going to run one video card.

The money is kind of a problem so that is why i asked you guys here so i can get some good ideas on what to get. I might get the board off eBay and i want to find a nice graphic card here for a good price, so if anyone got good offers PM me. But i really can use a nice board so give me ideas equal or a little less then the X48.

Again, we need some more detailed info about your plans for this PC before any real recommendations can be made. What are the other components that will be used in this computer?

I want to put a cuad core intel, 4 GB ram thats all for now if anything else is needed tell me.

Will you be using a single video card or two cards, and do you plan on upgrading to a Crossfire setup in the future?

In that case, I recommend either the ASUS P5Q Pro, which can be found for $105 after rebate on Newegg, or the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R, which can be found for $104 after rebate on Newegg.

Well, then you shouldn't have been asking about X48 boards. The X48 chipset is obviously for Intel CPUs only.

Depends on what you are doing. Do you game and plan to crossfire in the future? What's the budget? What processor, dual, quad? Are you going to overclock? AMD 750 southbridge chipsets have a new feature which allows high Phenom overclocks

here is one board just about 90% of the amd people would be happy with...its as future proof as you can get right now with amd......http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131340
another if you want good onboard graphics is this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138128
both of these boards will o/clock fairly well and price wise you cant beat either one..
asus also has a version of the 790gx board also for 145.00 if you want asus, foxconn and msi also have the same 790gx boards also...anyone of those boards would do you fine as you seem to be new to this game...everybody has to learn and dont be afraid to ask questions......I run the abit ax78 board and i have real good results from it.........good luck with your choise....
another thought is if you really dont need a quad then get a cheap amd dual core till the debab version comes out in jan 09 and wait till summer and buy one at a bargain price...you have to really do heavy multi-tasking to even use a quad...

wow wesleys_dad you really have some bomb ideas. thanks i think ill wait and get the debab version. i did some research on this item and its going to be the best. so i think till then i would have some more money and i can get it. I heard that MSI is a good brand and want to know if it's better then ASUS? for the 790GX.

EDIT:
what do you guys think about this board? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130190

I also want to the MSI DKA790GX Platinum how much of my power does it use i have a 450W power supply i want to know if thats good enough?

MSI is a very good brand also..for your need the 790gx board linked here would be more than enough..

If money is not really an issue than asus, gigabyte ,msi ,biostar,foxconn.....If it were me id have to say my personal opinion would be asus first but its more expensive than some of the others..anyone of the other brands i mentioned are also great boards...asus seems to put out very regular bios updates though...all of these boards will require a bios update to run a denab cpu....asus is very easy to update the bios if your inexperienced at doing it...
also check out a site called rebelshaven.com to see what biostar guys are saying about their boards...its a biostar o/clocking site.....but for the safest board for a novice the asus board would be probubly the best...also i read the latest boards are shipping in black and not brown like neweggs pic shows...kinda cool if you have a windowed case....
at 144.00 for the board and a 5400BE dual core you would be all set until denab comes out and prices drop a bit...remember quads run a bit hotter than duals too so cooling is an issue you would have to consider....
the onboard graphics on these boards are the best thats ever been put onboard so you could always wait on a top video card until you have the bucks.....some 1066 ram and a 790gx board and your all set for a while....
450 power supply would be enough depending on who makes it...
what brand do you have?
