New Mobo and CPU causing problems

Alright, I just upgraded my motherboard and processor with an ASRock P4V88 motherboard and a 3E GHz Pentium 4 Prescott. I'm also using one 512 MB stick of Crucial Ballistix DDR PC3200 RAM.

Now, I have all of my parts connected, and I try to start up my computer. Right after the POST finishes, instead of starting Windows, I get a blank screen, and after a few seconds, my whole computer restarts. I went into the BIOS and checked the CPU temp and it's usually at 100-120 degrees fahrenheit. I've removed and reapplied thermal paste several times, as well as checked to see if the heatsink was installed correctly. Everytime I start up, it stops loading at the exact same place. Sometimes after it restarts, the entire computer freezes during the very beginning of the POST, and sometimes it doesn't restart at all, I just get a blank screen.

I'm wondering if my CPU is getting too hot for Windows to start or if there is some other problem here.
 
I could be wrong, but I think for that particular processor, you need to use memory in pairs....so you need another matched memory module (2x512, 2x256, etc..)
 
I don't know about your processor and pairing memory, but it seems like you might have a hdd prob. My system did that once and if its not getting past post, you might have a bad drive/bad sectors. If you have another system, try the drive there.

Also, if it reboots at the same time, it might be a PSU issue, particularly when your hdd is spinning its ass off while loading the OS along with everything else buzzing along.
 
Well the thing about that is that everything worked perfectly fine before I put in the motherboard and processor (I'm using all of the same parts except the mobo and CPU). I can try the hard drive in another system, but I don't know if it (or my PSU) would conveniently die at the exact moment I switched parts
 
Did you reinstall windows after you put in the new motherboard? if not, that is probably your problem.

:eek: I flew by the part about replacing your mobo... I agree with the previous post that you do need to reinstall after a mobo replacement.
