My pc has an 805 pentium d and 500watt ultra v psu my video card is being changed to a 7600 but now i have a 6500 with ddr2 this is the mem

i know u guys get pissed when ppl bump up there threads but i an kinda ordering in like 30 mins

Eh, if you've held off the ordering... I'd honestly go Asrock. I've had great overclocking results with them before.

If this is a gaming computer, I'd go for a cheaper board and upgrade to a 7900gt, as the performance difference between the 7900 and the 7600 will be in and around the area of 40%... A HUGE difference for ~100$. Getting a better board (and then a better CPU overclock) will give you maybe a 4% boost in games ;).

the reason i want to change my board is becouse i have the d101ggc and it has no bios options the only thing u can do in the bios is change the speed of ur fans and i am more of an overclocker than a gamer but i do game when i find a good game worth playing i also wanted too change to ddr2 but i wanna know if its worth the money is the performance between ddr and ddr2 that much or should i keep my current memory

what about ddr2 is it that important cuz i have ddr and it would be cheaper for me to just get an$80 board

The cost between DDR and DDR2 really isnt that big anymore, i paid 198 dollars for 2x 1Gb sticks of corsair ram, which is about as much as the DDR counter part, it might vary more as you get into a smaller size. i would also agree with the video card, one 7900 can play alot of games today with high quality, and even better if you go with sli. although i dont think 7900's have any AGP designed cards so you would have to get a better motherboard. i made the switch to ddr2 because of the am2 amd. anyway i cant tell you if i noticed a performance difference in the ram because upgraded my entire system. your best bet is to do what i did and just hold out, save your money so you can get a really good new pc, and make it as future proof as you can like maybe think about getting a DX10 card when they come out. even though intel has conroe you can pick up a amd 4000+ for sub 200 dollars and beef it up past 2.8 :)

i might not really have no money for that 7900 am really broke and my cpus overclockability is more of my priority but how much better is the core in the 7900 or 7800 than the 7600 if the 7600 has 12 pipelines it should play all the games until i can go broke over the dx10 cards

well like i said, i would wait it out till you have more money, and you can build a new system, you could use the money your spending now on a better part(s) later. i dont see a point in buying already 'obsolete' hardware. ddr will slowly go down from here now that amd is supporting ddr2 finally. im actually not sure on the 7600 vs the 7900, i know alot of people run the 7600 in sli because its cheap and a great way to start a sli system. im using a 7900 which is pretty damn good, and even better in sli. and for a system, balance is everything. good balance yeilds better results. getting 512mbs of ram and a uber cpu would have bottlenecks.

so my adivce. hold out. fix and tweak your current pc. save. and buy a decent comp later. youll be much more happy with your results...

my problem is i have no bios options does any one kno when vista is coming

while your bios may not have any options im sure theres software out that that can edit from within windows, personally ive learned to love the bios and asus provides an awesome one at it, over software. but if softwares the way you gotta go then go for it. oh and if you dont already know look for your CMOS so you know how to reset it if you oc it too far...

my only problem is that unless u can provide another kind of software other than clockgen or softfsb i cand oc withsoft ware cuz of my gpu i cant stop it from ocing the pci which is somehow connected to my pci e slot so every time i try any thing higher my screen goes out

a screen going out usually means a crash when i overclocked with software. raising the FSB in a system raises the entire systems freq. it seems odd to me that the gpu is giving you problems so i looked into overclocking a pci-e slot which is possible and runs at 100mhz and oc'ing it yeilds little results. if indeed your right about the gpu being to high you can underclock it and then try overclocking your fsb, which is usually what you do with ram and known as a memory divider. if you have nvidia you can try ntune , which i havent tryed myself yet, but it might help.

i dont have any options in my bios man thats y am tring to get that new board
