It is rumored that the New MacBook Pro will be released in the fall with a Haswell refresh, promising better battery life and graphics. Who is buying one? I know I am definitely thinking about it.....
 
I'm considering it. Hoping battery life will be good, and I will go with Retina display. I currently use a Thinkpad T410i that is over 3 years old (but it still works fine).
 
I'm curious if they'll keep the older style around for another generation and if it's going to be Intel graphics all around.
 
I heard a rumor that Intel was making custom Haswell processors for the new MBP. Also heard they might be trying to get 4K HD graphics in there.

Intel is making mobile Haswell processors for Apple that have the Iris/Iris Pro (HD 5100/5200) graphics. Any 4K screens in this refresh will be in the iMac or the external Thunderbolt display, not in the MBP.
 
I really want a 13" Retina with Haswell. My 15" Retina goes up on eBay and in [H]'s For Sale forum the day it's released. :D

I needed a laptop and couldn't wait. Picked up a regular MBP 13" base model and threw in a 256GB SSD I had already and 16GB ram. It runs great, the i5 is plenty for running 2-3 windows VM's through parallels. Next week I am probably going to get a 500GB SSD to give myself a bit more space.

I'm sure the new haswell ones will be a bit better but I couldn't wait for the refresh.

I'm also looking to get a Haswell 13" retina Macbook Pro. I have a 15" rMBP now but I don't have any plans on selling it. I love it! it's my baby! :D
 
Thinking between purchasing a refurb rMBP in the store for $1,599... quite a savings. I don't think I can wait much longer. Battery life isn't a huge deal to me.


Also heard they won't be going dedicated GPU and will be using the 5200 Iris pro.
 
Iris pro should have more then enough power for the display at it's current specs. Personally I would grab the refurb @ 1599. I got mine for $1800 and I love it. Full warranty and mine came good as new.
 
Yeah $1599 is pretty damn good deal for a 15Mbpr. Seriously the best laptop purchase you can ever make. I expect the Haswel equivalent of that computer to be $2399 or so and not bring $800 worth of improvements to the table.

I'm expecting the Haswell refresh to nearly double the battery life. A Retina MBP that gets 11-14 hours of battery life is definitely worth another $800 to a lot of people.
 
:( I'm in a market to buy a MBPr, but I need one before the end of August (going overseas, so I need a computer to telecommute)... Will probably just buy the latest 13" MBPr refurbished off of the store, but knowing that the refresh is around the corner....

Given everything the same, haswel gives you %9 better performance and %15-20 less power draw. Meaning your battery savings while executing the same exact task which requires the same exact cpu power would be about %25 max, not %100, which is about right. 4 hours becomes 5, 8 hours becomes 10. To double the battery life you would need a cpu that would run at around %50 of a current ivy bridge cpu's draw and even then your battery life would not double, considering the screen, ram, board, wifi etc are all drawing the same power as before. Yes CPU has the biggest draw but it is not everything and all the wattage that you save on the CPU does not necessarily convert in to percent battery life increase.

The removal of the discreet GPU and the increase in battery power should combine with the more power efficient CPU to bring a significant boost to battery life. I'm hoping for at least 11 hours, not a tall order for a machine that already gets 7 hours and has a hungry discreet GPU.

I did not know that they were improving battery power, if that is the case than yeah that would absolutely amplify the usage you will get out of it. The discrete card not so much since it had auto off feature. I think it did not kick in until it was needed in the old MBPr so the power contribution of that will be low, but still be there.
 
I have a 3rd gen i7 13 inch macbook pro. I don't see myself replacing it anytime soon. Really I don't see myself buying another macbook as of right now. Don't get me wrong I like my macbook. I want built in ethernet, I still like my optical drive even though I don't use it much. It is nice though if you are traveling to be able to buy a dvd to watch. I also don't like the non-upgradable memory, the glued in battery, and the lack of ports(It would be nice to have a few more usb ports) that the rmbp's have gone too.
