1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? I Plan to use this computer for everyday tasks and gaming

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included? my budget is probably around $450(I may have some components already, will get to that later)

3) Where do you live? I live in California

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? I Will need a new case, psu, mobo, and cpu.

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? I will be reusing a Asus ati 4850, 2 1tb wd hdds, and 1 samsung 22x cd drive and 2x2gb sticks of Crucial Ballistix

6) Will you be overclocking? Yes, I plan on at least doing a little OCing.

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have? I currently have a 19inch monitor.

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC? I plan on buying the pc within the next 5 weeks.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? I do not need RAID, Crossfire, SLi, or firewire.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? Yes I have a legit windows xp key.

Heres some more background information:
I live in a very hot area, my current computer is producing a little too much heat, therefore I will be creating a new build using a few of the old parts that will hopefully be much cooler than the original. I am by no means just upgrading for that reason, I am also upgrading for a performance boost. Any Help/suggestions will be great. Is Amd or Intel the bets bang/buck at my current price range?

Which speed is the Corsair Dominator kit? DDR2 1066?

The Antec Three Hundred is the (IMO) better-looking case, but the Sonata III has the better PSU.

The AMD Phenom II setup would be a better long-term solution, as the Phenom II processors have just arrived and all of Intel's Socket 775 boards and processors have reached EOL status.

Get the following from Amazon, where CA residents don't get taxed:

$60 - Antec Three Hundred case
$70 - Antec Earthwatts EA500 500W PSU
$119 - AMD Phenom II X3 720 tri-core processor
$45 - Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283V CPU cooler
$81 - Asus M4A78 Plus Socket AM2+/AM3 ATX motherboard
=====
$375 - Subtotal (not including taxes or rebates)

Everything in the above list comes with free shipping as well. But you should pick up a couple of 120mm fans for the front of the Three Hundred case; I recommend the Yate Loon D12SL-12 fans.

The 300 is a better gaming case, but the PS is one of the weaker antec Hence"basic", The Earthwatts500 is a very strong delta made ps, tried and true.

With a 11.5 multiplier , you should be able to get that processor at or over 4.0ghz, maybe closer to 4.5

I currently have no AMD to speak of, so I can't compare

Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail $70

This version has all of its fan pre-installed (these are blue led fans).

COOLER MASTER RR-B10-212P-GP 120mm Long life sleeve CPU Cooler - Retail $30

Best after market heatsink for the price.

AMD Phenom II X4 920 2.8GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor Model HDX920XCGIBOX - Retail $150

If your budget allows, you should get a true quad core cpu, if you have 1066 memory.
As your overclock with 800 memory will be about 3.3 Ghz but if you have 1066 it will goto 3.7 GHz.

Will the amd x3 720 run cooler than the true quad cores because it is only 95w? I think I am leaning towards going the AM3 route because of the upgrade headroom.

I think you should wait for i3/i5, to see if they produce less heat than the current AM2+/3 offerings. If heat is a concern, I'd go with whichever has the lower TDP.

Also, the Sonata for $110 shipped/taxed is cheaper than the Antec300 + EA500, but the Antec 300 cools better than the Sonata.

Out of curiosity, what is your current setup?
