My brother is looking to purchase a laptop for $300-$500. Any suggestions? He's planning on using it for general use, Internet browsing, word processing, skype, etc. with the occasional movie stream/download. Please let me know I you need more info to provide a better suggestion.
 
Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430? Lenovos tend to be pretty solid and have fantastic keyboards.

The base configuration should be fine for what he's doing.
 
I second the Thinkpad Edge E430. If you're willing to go used I'd look at the Thinkpad T-series instead.
