New laptop problem

I just got a Toshiba Satellite A215-S48171, I formatted the drive and installed all the drivers that I could find from toshiba's website. But the problem is that the power saving settings in vista 64bit that I have set for the processor wont stay on, when on battery the processor does not want to reduce speed instead staying at full speed and killing the battery life with in about a hour. It is the 6 cell battery that came with the laptop.


Any ideas on how I can get windows to force the processor to stay at the lower speed settings and stay there, unless plugged into the wall?

Have you got the option turned on in the bios, my toshiba would do that if it was not turned on in the bios.

I have not noticed one but I will look.

I think I have found out part of the problem though, it seems that when ever media player is running that the processor jumps to full speed even if it is only using around 10% of the processor's total power. And it is a dual core so even at 800Mhz media player should not need to force the processor to run at full speed.
