Girlfriend upgraded from an old 2004 Toshiba laptop to a Lenovo Ideapad Z570.

Now her wireless internet connection is dropping randomly and frequently, it never dropped on the old Toshiba.

Using a Linksys WRT54GS with the latest firmware.

Any ideas?

Have you checked to make sure you have the latest drivers for the Lenovo? Is this a brand new, off the shelf laptop, or just a newer used one?

Given that Z570 seems to have a 1X1 WLAN card (non Intel as far as I can tell) it might have worse performance than the older computer.

Replace it but if you have a single radio card you probably only have one antenna so it wont help you greatly unless there's incompatibility between the router and current WLAN-card but range will be the same in general.

Ok so if it has a shitty WLAN card, what can I do?

Can you open the wan card location on the bottom, under keyboard and reseat the card & cables ?

Worked on a few lenovo's a few weeks ago and they all had this issue, the coax ( wire ) cables were loose.
