New Laptop GPU issues

I just bought my GF a new laptop from newegg, here's the link - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220753 - and it works perfectly except for when I try to play games. It wont let me change the resolution of the game, like I will go to the video options in game, and select a new resolution, and then i restart the game but the game still stays at the default resolution, same thing with Anti-Aliasing, and some other settings. It wont save the changes. And when I tried running BF 2142, the game kept minimizing itself, until i changed my desktop resolution to 800x600, then it would stop minimizing itself, but when i went into the video options in game, it had no options for changing the resolution whatsoever. I cant figure out why its doing this. I checked in the ATi Catalyst control center, and made sure all the 3D options were set to "Application Controlled"...I have no idea wtf is going on. If you read the specs to the Laptop it should be able to play games pretty friggin well. It has a dedicated GPU with its own 1GB of DDR3 and it has a Phenom II Triple-Core CPU with 4GB of DDR3 memory. i mean its a nice friggin laptop....So any ideas ?

so i just got it to let me set the resolution to 1024x768 and AA to x4, but thats it, if i try to set it higher, as soon as i restart the game, it reverts everything back to default. My desktop is set to 1600x1200, so I kno this GPU can handle that, and it should be able to do as much AA as i want, maybe it wont run smooth, but it should still let me select the option. THis is pissing me off. We just spent like 800$ on this laptop and i want to game on it ! please help

Well i got borderlands to work perfectly fine. And i got bf 2142 to work but it will only let me pick eithet 800x600 or 1024x768 as my resolution so im not sure why. Im stumped but i guess i got them working so thats a plus

BF2142 is just being retarted.

Try creating a shortcut with the added parameter +szx 1600 +szy 900

You should also change "+fullscreen" to "+widescreen" to keep things from getting distorted

It should look like or similar to this depending on the installed directory.

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1600 +szy 900"
