new laptop , AMD???

Hello all -

I am in need of a new laptop - other then the standard fair of email - websites. I watch some netflix. I want HDMI out- so I can pipe it to TV, I play the odd game - but not much - a "docking station" might be of use to me. as I am a huge fan of more screen space. I will by running alittle bit of auto cad , but small files, on it, as well as some torrents, and HD movie playback.

I am wondering if AMD has a competitive offering ot teh core i5 series that intel offers.

Looking for something cheap, -- a "spevrate" number pad would be nice to, .. not eh one "buildt in " to the letters.

I am really happy with my amd a6-3400 llano based laptop except i wish i had got discrete graphics. Using k10stat i overclocked my a6-3400 from 1.4ghz to 2.4ghz and it performs very well. Got my brushed aluminum HP DV7 for $435 shipped.

So APU is good as an idea but not ready for prime time yet.
Maybe APU would be a thing of the past soon. Who knows.

An APU isn't really meant for heavy/hardcore gaming (yet) but it will give you very respectable performance when compared to the majority of integrated solutions on laptops.

If you're only a light gamer, an APU is likely the best choice and is more than ready for prime time. You can have reasonable gaming performance at a fraction of the cost. The a6-3400 is also not the best APU you can go with. Higher end APUs will actually allow for some nice eye candy.

amd apu laptops are really good. the liano stuff could be overclocked quite nicely

my A8-3520m is overclocked from 1.6Ghz to 2Ghz
