I'm new to this forum and new to pretty much anything technical with computers however i'm running a base 2Ghz P4 at the moment and am thinking its time for an upgrade, wouldnt you agree? So my question is what is the way to go? I do a lot of video conversion and editing and starting to get into a lot of picture editing and what not, my cp isnt for gaming but i want my next one to be able to play games (such as doom 3, and play it well). I like the intel bc ive had nothing but luck with them so far. What proccessor speed do i need? Do i need the 6xx processor? Isnt it the dual core for 64 bit? And i know its not the best place to ask this but whats the graphic card i need to run that kinda game optimally and what ram size, speed do you suggest. Ive tried doing some research but some people get to technical for me. Ne wayx help would be appreciated and btw money isnt really much of an object(but kinda)

i hate it when people say this...

anyway, the 6xx series p4's are 64bit. only the new extreme edition is dual core, and its now being released in japan so i wouldnt expect it in the states too soon. if your going to go p4, get a 6xx.

thnx for your opinion, about the money comment, im not trying to say im some rich kid, i just feel that if its an investment i can only afford to make every 3 or 4 years,i should try to make the best decision possible because i wont be able to just upgrade all the time, and i dont want to reget not buying something i should have. Thats why i personally throw that comment out. Thnx again though for your help

this is what I'm getting from a 3.0 530J chip on air cooling.

I know exactly what you mean, I extremely regret buying my 939 system, it's only led to a series of headaches, and I should have done a better upgrade... but you live and learn (and spend a lot of money!)

I did but that AMD A64 O/Cing stuff is for the birds. too many settings for me to handle.

I like only having to deal with adjusting vcore and FSB settings on my P4 rigs unlike that AMD A64 stuff that has 201 different/goofy settings to deal with.

Naw, wasn't that for me... I had all kinds of wierd errors, so I bought a new Neo 2 to solve the problem... damaged in transit, I had some pics but apparently they were lost... I personally love O/Cing A64's.. but to get a 100% stable system was WAY out of my reach... this is what I get for spending $3,000 on a pc? Shit, I could have a more stable RELATIONSHIP with $3,000. :(

Yeah the 600 series p4 are really awesome in a way, i got a 630 and its really good, yeah the 600 series is 64bit which is already mentioned by a couple of people in this thread, if your going to get the 600 series it is future proof, and you will be able to run the new winxp 64bit, as you said in your post you want to play game aswell, the 630 or 640 will be pretty good for gaming, but AMD64 will be a better choice for gaming.

Very nice. The 3.0E rev E0 that I have did 3.9 stable on air and does 4.2 on water. Mine is a 478 chip though. I think the 3.0E E0 rev is pretty nice for the $$$.

how do the 600 series chips overclock? im planning to sell my ATI 939 combo and buy a mATX i915P and maybe a 620 CPU, but i want a nice OC on it....

^ I'm going to try a 3.0 660 2MB cache chip in the next few days to see if its as good (or better) of an O/Cer like my 3.0 530J chip is.

we'll see.... I'll be tickled pink if the 660 2MB chip O/Cs just as well.
