new idea for a mod: will it work?

I've been reading all sorts of forums and articals... googling for hours and days.
I have found a few articals where people have submerged thier radiator in a bucket of water, usually with ice in it in order do get some extreme overclocking...
The problem with this is, the water is so cold that you would eventually get condensation on the waterblock, etc. (not very practical for everyday use)...

ok.... this is where I start to get wierd...

Now, the whole idea behind water cooling is that water conducts heat better than air, right?
Well, intead of having a large radiator with a few noisy fans on it... Why couldn't I place my radiator in a small tank of water at room temp (that would fit in the upper portion of a fulltower case) in order to cool the radiator off???? no more fans.

As owner of several aquariums, (with fish in them even), I know that evaporation would be a problem, and I want the tank in a matter that any evaporation will go straight out of the tank and not back into the case... This leaves me with sortof a piano hinge contraption for the top panel of the case.

I allready have purchased a very tall, fulltower case, and about to start cutting it up. I just wanted some final input from all of you guys.
Have I gone mad? Is this idea even concieveable?

I just want to do something that hasn't done before... usually there is a reason it hasn't been done; it wont work. This just sounded like a good idea to me
 
Initally (when you turn it on) it would work V well, however soon the water in the tank would warm up and match the temprature in the radiator. when that happens you end up in a cycle.

As temprature increases > more water evaporates > Less water to transfer the heat to > Temprature increases quicker.

The process would be slow at first but it would be expontially increasing in speed.

plus also your room would start to feel like a sweatbox.

The result would be that the water temprature inside your cooling loop would be constantly rising and it would eventaully lead to your processor getting so hot it either goes poof or shuts the machine down.

If you want to go the route of completely passive cooling what about building a custom radiator or use some sort of super efficent radiator (car), Or possibly even burying part of the loop underground far enough for the surrounding dirt to cool it ( I Think this has already been discussed)

You could add a saltwater chiller to the tank. Just get one that's rated about the same as the heat output of the components in your loop... Like, 2GPUS and a CPU you'd need probably a 200w chiller... Just a thought.

Perhaps you could consider adding another tank into the mix. I've seen a few people run successful watercooling without using radiators by instead employing two or more large buckets acting almost as large res's. If you draw water from one, into your loop, and then out into the other, all you'd need would be some sort of simple design to allow water to flow between the buckets. Keeping the buckets seperate helps reduce heat transfer between them, and using very large buckets (with large air/water surfaces and a lot of water) increases the amount of heat the water can absorb and also helps the water release that heat to the air. If you have a bunch of aquariums, maybe you could use two of those (without any fish). If you could rig some tubing between them (near the bottoms), then you could intake from one and spit out water into the other. Then, as suggested before, if your room turns into a sweatbox, you could add chillers.
I don't see any need to use a submerged radiator, because hanging open tubing into the same pool of water (if you keep the water clean) is way more effective and saves you the cost of the radiator.

Yeah something like this would be plausible, but a smaller amount of water that could fit inside the case would just warm up with the radiator, it would pretty much be like using an oversize res with no rad.
 
I see what you're trying to do, but you're putting too much thought into it. I would recommend you use the Reserator. Problem solved.
 
excelent feedback, guys! I like the chiller idea. looking in to that. also to point out that I don't really need a radiator is also a good point. More research to do...
I know this is not an easy one, and I see where It may have some problems. Looking for more information, and will comeup with something to look at mabee sketchup, or atleast some chicken scratches on a scotch soaked bar napkin...

I auctually did the same thing before, with a betta living inside it. Well, not inside but in a divided tank. Well long story short I moved him out becuase the water headed up too much.

Also tried it with a cooler and kept adding ice everytime I gamed. That was the funniest setup I've ever created.
