Ok. What am I screwing up. Doing a new build that I want to eventually water cool.

i7 930 - stock cooler
Gigabyte x58a ud3r

gskill 3x 2gb 1600 (9-9-9-24)

At stock voltage I think the memory stalls so I followed this guys advice: http://gskill.us/forum/archive/index.php?t-1322.html

I custom set the memory and voltage up to 1.6 etc.etc.

I can run windows 7 mem test all day long now without an error.

I switched back to my old trusty video card and got windows 7 x64 up clean, patched, etc.

Since it seemed stable I ran prime95 and it crashed in about 5 sec with 8 worker threads got back in with the gigabyte monitor and saw temps at the cpu in the 70s under modest load (2 threads now) before it crashed again. Now I'm reinstalling win 7 since it won't boot.

I've done heatsinks etc before, but maybe the stock cooler / fan / stock paste just sucks so much it can't run.

any ideas?

You know what's also weird, Windows 7 takes an unusually long time to get setup running. What's with that?

Make sure that you set the CPU voltage correctly.
