Hey all, first time poster here. I'm looking for some advice on a motherboard. I've used asus for years but last one I purchased(p5b deluxe) I had bad luck with customer service. So now I'm looking at evga and was curious if their products are right for my needs. I want to build an i930 when it's available with 6 gb of RAM. Over clocking is low on priority and stability, software/bios support is high. Primary use is gaming secondary software development. I intend to use my gtx280 as primary display and gts8800 for open cl/physx activities. Please advise.

I have a P6X58D which so far has been great. I did have one SATA port die on me last week and the board is only two weeks old so that's a demerit but seems to be a great overclocker and my system is solid at 4Ghz. Temps are a little on the high side @ 1.32, 40 idle and up to 80 at load.

The OP won't need this high-end, expensive motherboard. He would be fine with any of the following:

Gigabyte EX58-UD3R
Gigabyte EX58-UD4P
ASUS P6T
ASUS P6T SE

If you don't intend on overclocking very much, a board like the Gigabyte EX58-UD3R or AsRock X58 Extreme would be just fine. Both are great boards. If you really want an EVGA board, then the X58 micro is good too.

The only thing that concerns me with the Gigabyte EX58-UD3R is the lack DIMM slots. I'm not dead set on EVGA. I guess I'm still gathering data, I do know that there are a lot of complaints about ASUS and Gigabyte customer support. Having owned several ASUS boards I do know they seem to keep the BIOS updated. I have only owned one gigabyte boards and it was literally just dropped it in built the system and forget about it.

To be honest, I don't think you'll ever need any more than 6GB of RAM, which is why I recommended the EX58-UD3R. I've used it twice before, and it was great both times, no problems at all. And I've never had any problems with Gigabyte customer support.

If you don't plan on using more than 6GB of RAM, then the 4 DIMMs should not be an issue. Also, Gigabyte frequently issues BIOS updates (and beta BIOSes) so that should quell any concerns on the BIOS front.

Keep an eye on your board, i had something similar happen to a board and the SATA port was the first of many to blip out on me.
