New HSF for 8800GT

My local store told me that the newer 8800GT comes with better HSF which makes it run cooler and quieter.

Is this true? Which makes come with this new HSF?
 
The heatsink fin array itself was not revised, but the fan was made larger. It is worth searching for one if you plan on sticking to stock cooling as it remains quiet up until about 80% whereas the smaller fan is noticeable around 50% and does not cool as well. Also note that most of the eVGA cards with the larger fan have been shipping with the superior Samsung memory as opposed to the Qimonda of the earlier cards. I have heard of XFX and Leadtek cards coming with the larger fan, but I'm not sure of their memory.

How do I identify these newer 8800GT? Are they double-slot?
 
No it's virtually identical, just wider diameter fan with more blades.

XFX has it also. Leadtek too I think. Not sure who else.
 
from what i have read there is very little difference. both are pretty much junk. you should probably look for aftermarket.
