my budget to build a new computer is $2000, however this has to leave money for a 19" flat panel, wireless keyboard and mouse and speakers..

this computer will be used for the usual internet browsing/photo editing/word processing/etc.. and also i would like it to be top notch for games and music

hopefully $2000 is enough to build something great.. all opinions are welcomed

hmm
tough call
i would go for a 939 A64 like a 3500+ , 1GB of mem and 6800GT (BFG OC if you can find one >.> )
2x 120GB SATA in RAID 0 (maybe a raptor)
Viewsonic 19" moniter

DVD burner and DVD rom drives
a nice case preferably aluminum
and a a nice big PCU ~500watts
a good sound card and 5.1 setup
:D :D
that sould get you there ^^

I too agree with the:

AMD64 3500+ 939 pin (300-$400)
1GB of either Corsair, OCZ, or (Board suggested) ram ($200 - $300)
2x 120GB SATA drives should be Seagate :) ($200-$250)
Motherboard you're limited on options at the moment: ($100 - $150)
Sound: SB Audigy 2 Plat ZS or a regular Audigy 2 card: $80 - $170)
The NEC 2510A DDVD+/-RW drive which does Dual layer (under $100)
Antec Aluminum Case $100
Aspire 500W PSU (Aluminum) $56
6800GT eVGA ($424)

All prices are from ranges in Newegg, you might be able to find some cheaper then listed by going with refurbs or clearance. But this system will land you around $1500 - $2000 depending on where you want to go with it.

Wow, a lot of wrong choices I see, Crook.

CPU - Good.
RAM - Corsair 1 GB Dual Channel XL Pro
HDD - You must choose the size and go for dual hard drives or just single. One for gaming/editing, the other for file/music/video/pictures works best.
MB - I suggest waiting for the MSI Neo Platinum2 MB. Just wait for it.
SOUND - Do you feel comfortable going with an excellent nForce-backed sound system or going with pure audophile set up? If so-- get the Audigy 2 or Audigy 2 ZS. I find either similar. No need for Platinum unless you're using it as a music studio (does not apply to burning music CD's  ).
DVD+/-RW - Lite-On 8x Dual Layer which costs *WAY* less than $100 dollars.
Case and PSU - Get an Antec case with 430 Watts of TruPower for $130-ish dollars. Worth it. OR get a custom case of your own and buy a separate Antec/Fortron/Sparkle PSU rated at least 400-ish. Crook-- I have no idea why you would recommend an Aspire PSU...
VIDEO CARD - Are you going to play games EXTENSIVELY? Are you even a gamer? a Medium route would be 9800 Pro which can keep you busy for a while really. If you are a gamer, go for the top 6800 variants (GT can OC to Ultra easy-- save some bucks).

LCD's-- go to the Display Forums and find out which is best for gaming (19" is nice). Seek for a 16 ms-based LCD panel.

Your wireless keyboard/mouse? OBVIOUSLY the Logitech's MX Duo set up.

Speakers - Logitech Z-680's. Cheap but EXCELLENT 5.1's for its' god forbidding price (meaning, I can't believe it's not $400 dollars!!11).

:) Enjoy.

Ummm everything you listed was about the same as what I listed... Antec case, psu's were different. HDs like I said 2x120GB Seagate SATA, means 2 of the same drive...
The LiteOn 8x drive is only a preference as both NEC and LiteOn drives are rated very high. The NEC drive is actually less expensive then the LiteON
You chose the same video card.
Motherboard I didn't list any because there are some new ones coming out from DFI and some others that are worrth waiting for.
Sound cards you said the same thing basically, except I said platinum only for the shear feature of the drive bay that has some added features which a lot of people like, in which case I said the audigy for those that don't.

Either way, my suggestions are "Wrong" like you said, or even think. Remember it is all pure preference as well as you really didn't suggest too many things different.

Wireless Keyboard and mouse the MX Duo is nice unless you are going for gaming (still works well though).
Speakers is all personal preference as well. Z-680's are nice, a lot of people like Klipsch. I find most of those high end sets are overrated and either pump out to my home theatre, or use my nice set of Inspire 5500's which sound nice and get the job done. As well as the Logitech Z-680's are $239 at newegg, which would not leave him that much cash left over for the 19" monitor. Which I suggest either Samsung or Viewsonic.

yea the only other thing i think what should change from that is to get 500w PSU
you can never have too much power ^^

I'm going to third the A64 recommendations, a 3500 is a beautiful processor.

The ABit AV8 pro should run you $120ish, and is a good motherboard for it. The 3500 should be around $450, probably cheaper. But lets include some headroom neh? An Alternative would be the an nForce3 250GB board for socket 939. I think MSI is coming out with one soon. I would personally take that over a VIA chipset, but whatever floats your boat.

So, $570 for the CPU/mobo.

I'm also going to recommend the Samsung 710T for your LCD screen. Its $500, and I know its not 19"... but a 17" LCD has a pretty big viewable area anyways, and I hear good things about it.

Finally, a good graphics card to pair up with that CPU... a 6800 GT is a great card, and even though its a bit on the expensive side... you'll want to pair up something good with that processor. Thats $400 in theory... but retailers are price gouging I understand and it could be as much as $450.

So, if you go for that LCD... $500, plus vid card $450, plus CPU/MOBO $570...

$1500 so far. Use the rest on RAM. I'm going to recommend a high quality 2.1 setup, because it will run you less than a 5.1... and will sound just as good, if not better. Plus, with my recommendations we're approaching that $2000 price ceiling.

Crook-- my bad. I was looking at the 500 watt aspire psu and i just thought everything looked wrong lol. I am funny.

Apologies.

I have the Klipsch too but they're expensive and wouldn't go below his budget. The Z-680's are just as good.

Yeah. The Aspire I wasn't sure about as I chose it because if you go with an aluminum case, you might want to look into an aluminum PSU and that was one of the ones that had good reviews. Figure, lite case, and lite PSU makes a nice lite machine.

Thats pretty much what i am buyihg...

As soon as the 3500 are avialble agian..

err should have bought a week ago when it was 350 instead of 400...

hmm ummm....

Im going with one 160WD harddrive...
getting a Audigy2ZS Gamer
3500AMD64
Going with either the Asus or Gigabyte MOBO
1GB of XMS Corsair PC3200
19" Flat NEC -249 dollors..not bad..
DVD Dual Layer NEC
480 True Antec with Blue Fans
X Dreamer 2 case

Not a bad setup. Where are you getting that 19" NEC for $249?!?!?

I wanna buy some!

Oh and good choice on the processor. That 3500 will last a while. I'm just not possitive on whether I want to get a 3500 now, or wait for the 90nm chips to come out and then dual cores. :p It's too much to think about.

I think I'm better off waiting until at least Windows 64 bit is out.

eh i have a 1.4 Geforce 2 setup right now..it sucks so i dont want to wait anylonger lol..

what is this dual core u speak of...

will i notice a HUGE diff if i wait for it...

i want my 3500 now! it looks so fast and my 6800GT is just sittin ghere...very lonely it is!

The dual core is basically 2 processor cores in 1 chip. Means nearly twice the processor power.

No prices yet. They aren't suppose to come out till 05, but 90nm chips are last quarter 04 which might mean that the boards will be the same.

Ohhh I thought you meant Flat Panel. You just put flat so I wasn't sure.
Thanks for the link.

Well, I look it as it's possible the motherboards that will support 90nm might just support dual core which you'd have forward updates. Instead of having to get a whole new Motherboard and processor.

haha yeah a 21 " LCD for 249..i wish..

Eh i like CRTs better anyway..

So will my 939 mobo fit the 90nm?
