Hi all, I just installed my new XP-120 with a panaflo fan, and I had a question about my temps. Motherboard Monitor reports my case temperature at 34 celcius, and my cpu temperature at 32 celcius. It was my understanding that with air cooling the cpu temperature couldn't go below the ambient temperature. Is this just a case of quirky readings, or could my cpu be cooler?

Oh, and the XP-120 is so fricking awsome, I idle at 32 and under load I never pass 40.

asus boards read temps below actual. and abit boards read them above actual. its not cooling below ambient, but it is doing a damn good job cooling. how heavy are those things, ive been looking at them for a project i may start after new years and im debating that or a zalman 7700cu

heres the deal.. usualy the probe for case is next to the south bridge and stuff twards the bottom right of the mobo if you look at it through a window in a tower... your picking up the extra heat thats being made by the south bridge probably

or the above poster is right, either or its little to worry about

Cool, thanks for the replies. And I really do recommend this thing over the 7700cu. The XP-120 weighs in at 370grams (heatsink only), while the 7700 weighs a monstrous 918 grams...thats almost a kilo! Although be sure to check your motherboard compatibility on Thermalrights website, I had to bend a cap or 2 a couple of millimeters for the heatpipes to fit.

Since the board is possibly reporting temperatures that are not the actual temps, I just go by what I got with my old cooler. The old one would idle at 35/36celsius and on load it would reach 50celcius. So if I just go by what I have experienced the XP-120 has dropped my load temps just about 10celcius.
