I've got a
A7N8X Deluxe mobo with AMD Athlong XP 3000+
It runs at abouttt 50 deg C idle, my current came with the board and is really weak so...

In terms of heatsink what should I get? I have practically no knowledge of heatsinks so itll all be based on what im told. thnx for any input.

IMHO i think there are two options for Athlon XP Air Cooling
the Thermalright option: SP97 with 92mm Panaflo or the Zalman option: CNPS 7000A-Cu

the Thermalright option will set you back about $50 while the Zalman option will set you back about $40, with the Thermalright you could replace the fan anytime you want to for more cooling or less noise, whatever you prefer
but the Zalman isnt as easy to upgrade fans, i'm not sure about this but i think the only way you could get another fan for it (in case the current one dies) is to go buy a replacement from Zalman.

Honestly, I would go with the Zalman as the noise level is lower than the Thermalright option and its a little cheaper
 
I'm not a pro at this, but I assume you'd want to ask yourself if you want a more silent oriented rig, or just anything will do.

and also check the models to make sure it fits your motherboard. ;)


I think Zalman has nice heatsinks if you're noise conscious. ;)
 
My brother has an oc'ed 2600 Mobile and with a Vantec Aeroflow he had 54°C load at 1.875V. He just switched to the Thermalright SP-97 and his load temps dropped to 45°C.

Thermalrights are excellent HS's, so you can't go wrong with one of them. I'd go with the SP-97 or the SLK-900A, depending on what you can afford.

BTW, what's your case temp? Your apprx. load temps with the SP-97 will be 23°C higher than your case temp as long as you have a fairly high powered fan.
 
Case temp now is 28 deg C idle, looking into
the SP-97
and Swifttech MCX462-V Socket A with a 92mm fan, prob 69cfm, I was told if I got a 119 cfm I would definately need a fan controller.

maybe the Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu, but I think the other ones are better?

I've got the SLK-900a and it is working great so far on my mobile 2600.
