I am looking to get a new headset. Im not sure what to get. I was looking at the turtle beach ak-r8, but did not get them because they eliminate my sound card. I am open to all suggestions on headsets. Please share good headsets or headsets to stay away from.

EDIT: I have a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card
Thank you,

Wizzade

Koss SB40 ($30), if you read the sticky at the top you will see that those are highly recommended. Also, there are a few reviews out there about the E.D.G.E. GX400's. They cost about ($180) but are supposed to be top notch IEM's (in ear modules) with a mic built in.

SB40's will serve you well.

The EDGE's look OK, since they're a branch of (forgot which IEM company, but it's rather prolific). Still, I'd stay away. Seems rather pointless to get $180 gaming IEMs. I think I read somewhere they tuned the sound for competitive gaming (less bass than normal and such), making it rather unsuitable for music.

They are supposed to be exactly like the ER-4P's with a mic added. I think that all the Etymotic IEM's have less bass than normal, because I have a set of the ER6i's and they seem to have no bass whatsoever, but they are great for planes/trains.

the sb40 has great sound for 30.00 but has a lousy mic (i soldered in a different mic on mine)
i like the steelsound 4h also- ok bass(much improved over the 5h) and great mic, lightweight and comfy

SB40 has better sound. With a zalman clip on mic, it has a better mic than the Steel.

Soooo....

ok i have the steelsound 5hv2, and the koss sb40

comfort- the steelsound wins easily-very well padded and lightweight
mic- steelsound- the koss has a LOUSY mic- the steelsound has a great one
durability- the 5hv2 has breakaway parts and braided lines- easily better than the sb40. however- the koss has a lifetime warranty- unfortunately u have to pay shipping both ways

and

sound- koss- has a pretty full range- lacks some hi notes. the steelsounds are made to hear peeps on teamspeak and game sounds very clear- as such- it has no bass. ez win for the koss

i have had the 5hv2 for a long time and it has served me well in many clan matches and such. it looks great after 2 yrs of heavy use. i modded my koss with different earpads and mic to alleviate its shortcomings. of course the koss is 30.00 and the steelsound is 70.00

a sidenote- the steelsound 4h has much better bass than the 5hv2- not as good as the koss tho, and costs less. its only shortcoming is it has thin wires (like the koss) and not the nice braided lines of the 5hv2.

KOSS bc how it sounds is the most important. It is much better than the steel there, and very close in everything else.

I like my sb40, but the mic sucks. Definitely get the zalman clip as spaceman suggests, or use another mic.

i dont know y u guys like koss sb-40 . u guys suggested me that same headset . now that i got it i hate the sound of music on it . no bass what so ever . tried every equalizer for winamp . i have a xtreme music . it sounds worse than my altec lansing 2.1 speakers , pretty old .

so which do you think is better overall

the 5hv2 is overpriced- i got mine on sale. so...

IF communication on the mic and comfort is a priority i would get the 4h. it excels at marathon clan matches and such
IF u play bass heavy games like battlefield 2142 (which punishes low bass headphones) get the koss. it is closer to audiophile sound

to be honest i reach for the 4h more than the koss. but i use my audiophile level cans more than either

use 1st time google checkout at buy.com and get the koss for 20.00 or the 4h for 42.00

my sb40 w/xtrememusic will thump and rumble with bass- if u want i will send u my settings
