Budget is probably up to $250, obviously lower is better, no USB please. I want to use it with my sound card(Creative X-Fi Titanium, not the HD version) and I would prefer a headset really with a microphone, but if there are headphones for the same price that are way better I will go with those instead. I will use them for Gaming and Music(Mostly dubstep and some others like Mumford & Sons)


Some I have found that seem pretty good
Audio Technica AD900
Sennheiser PC360

Any better suggestions? Again NO USB!
 
Sennheiser HD 598 ($249.99 on Amazon) with a clip mic would be ideal. If you want a cheaper option then
AD900 ($209 on Amazon) with a clip mic.

Both would run just fine via your X-FI Titanium.

How much better is the HD 598 compared to the AD900?

And I am guessing you mean the standard Zalman mic right?

Well the HD 598 is considered an all in one kind of can. It has fantastic sound stage (very important for gaming) , it doesn't suffer from the Sennheiser "Veil" or mid-range softness (this is user subjective so otherwise ignore it) and it doesn't require a quality headphone amp to shine. It also sounds great even when using lower bit rate music or poorly mastered soundtracks. Its not bass heavy but it offers detailed , tight and accurate sub bass (which is important because too much bass is not a good thing for gaming). Its also loved for its comfort. Considering you'll be wearing headphones for hours on end , comfort can often trump every other requirement. Sennheiser makes fantastic headphones and there is a huge community of people that love the 598's.

I highly recommend the 598's over the AD900's because they will have better bass (not overwhelming bass but better controlled) where the AD700 and AD900 are considered bass "lite" and while that doesn't mean much for gaming , it'll mean something if you ever wanna watch a movie or listen to music on your comp. You can buy the 598's and be satisfied with them for years to come.

And yes I meant the Zalman Clip Mic.
 
I just ordered a pair of V-Moda V80s. They have received a ton of praise over the last few months. Not sure if they have same high quality signature sound stage as the AD900s or HD 598's but I'm giving them a try. They are regarded as being top quality in build, durability, styling and sound. Also they are considered a good value for under $200. I got mine from Amazon for $169.99. Also they are said to not require any type of amp to be able to produce top quality sound.


Should have them soon. I did a bunch of research before buying these. I hope they work out. I have high expecatations for them based on all the positive reviews.
