New headset advice

I'm looking for some input for a new headset. So far I'm looking at some from Sennheiser, as I've heard great things from them.

I recently bought a Razer Piranha which I ended up not liking. They seemed to have some bass boost built in which I could not get rid of, since Win7 or Realtek drivers don't offer bass/treble adjustment. That or it naturally favours bass over everything else, but I couldn't tell since I'm not experienced in dissecting audio. On top of that I was told my mic quality wasn't great, so I thought overall I was taking a step backward from my old headset, which I went back to.

At the moment I'm using a Plantronics audio .355 headset. I want a natural upgrade from that which most can agree on. Mainly I'm looking for one that is good for general music listening, and a great mic for Ventrilo. It needs to work well right out of the box since I don't have a sound card, or ways to adjust sound other than program specified. And although I can't explain the specifics of it, I'd like to avoid naturally increased bass.

As far as budget goes, I'd like to stay around $100, or a little more with tax.
