New headphones.

Granted a 100$ of headphones do not make you a audiophile....however, there are alot of good choices for that price. Not going to have SQ like a pair of AKG1000s, but they going to be alot better then any 30-40$ headphones.

Now its not a equippment that really makes you a audiophile, its more the person and how you better your listen experience. Some people spend 100$ on a amp, some spend 30$ and build one. Does spending more money make you any more a phile then building? I dont think so, cause i would love to build my own amp one day. I dont have the knowledge now, but will some research on the net im sure i will be able to in a few months.

The point, money doesnt make you a audiophile =)

I like your comment but I believe Mister X is talking about High end Audio. You can be an Audiophile and not have enough money to pay attention. But I have to agree with him partly due to the fact that in most instances quality is directly related to money. The higher the quality of the product usually means a higher price tag.

hehe i was just kiding with Mrx, i know he is the man when it comes to building a nice amp for you. Ive seen his work and its awesome to say the least. I almost asked him to if he could build me a CMOY or something, but i got a Go-vibe for a great price. Most likely cheaper then what he could build me a basic CMOY for. However, he was my first choice when i decided i wanted a pocket amp. His work speaks for itself.

Ya i know money normally equals higher quality. Thats a given, but a person on the search for some nice 100-200$ cans, are on their way to Audiophilness (god i love that word). Also, you can find SWEET deals online for used stuff. That 100$ budget can turn into a 200-250$ pair of cans if you do your research. Samething goes for higher end cans...Im sure you can find a nice pair for about any budget you have.

Its like being a geek. First you start off low...cheaper no name parts maybe...then as you learn you move up the ladder. Being a geek doesnt mean you need a 5000$ system. Nor does having a 5000$ make you a geek. I think putting forth the effort to get the best cans for the money is a great start. Research will yeild the best results, thats how i found out about the KSC75's =) extremely happy with that purchase.

Samething with my HD555...i wanted either the 555-580-595. After research (at the time had no plans for a amp) I learned that the 580 and 595 are higher ohm then the 555, therefore requires a amp to run (well doesnt require, but it helps a ton with these 2 cans). So to me the 555 was the best choice. I wanted something all around, i can use for movies on a HT system or my PC, music with PC source and gaming. The first thing i want was comfort, thats top priority for me atm.

More than likely now that i have a small amp coming, might try out a set of 580-595s. YES the audiophile bug is taking its toll on me. As others said, you will always be on the prowl for something new and exciting to blow your hard earned dollars on =)

Getting back on topic, i think the 595 will be a great choice. I can say for certain that the HD5XX design are by far the most comfortable pair of headphones i have tried. Sound might be alittle subpar, but again comfort is top for me.

595. But quick question, if I buy an Ipod, will I be able to hook up my 595 to it. Sorry I don't know if I need a certain connector/adaptor.
Yes, it is a "noobish" question.

Most certainly! You might need a 1/4" to a 1/8" I think you will get one with the cans. I got one with my 555s...but as it has been said before...to really open up the 595s you should get a amp. I dont know the exact impedance of the 595s, but im sure its above the normal 50-60ohm.

Anything with a higher impedance requires more power to push. Just food for thought.

I believe 595's come in 120 ohm and 50 ohm flavors.

EDIT: not that I disagree that an amp would help.

they come with a 1/4" -> 1/8" adaptor, but it puts alot of strain on the 1/8" plug and jack, so it's recommended to either make your own adaptor or buy the grados adaptor.

Since when does a pair of $110 headphone, a $60 amp and a Audigy2 ZS = high end audio?

and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

^_^

PS: If you can prove me wrong, i'll give you a cookie. :D

I have the grado SR-125 and they produce the best sound I have heard so far in that price range. The sennheiser sounded "too far", with the grados, you are "on the stage".

IMO they rock. The design sucks so you won't wear them in public, but nothing beats em.

I have a M-Audio Revolution with NAD C320BEE amp and SR-125 and I love the sound.
Mission M72i bookshelf speakers.

Why i didnt know that. I know there were 50 and 120 versions of the HD555. I would of loved to find a 50ohm pair of 595s. Again, it doesnt matter now that i have a amp otw.

You have to excuse my skepticism but your condescending assertion that the HD555s, a $60 amp and an Audigy 2 ZS are high end audio does little to convince me.

You know what you can do with that cookie right?

I understood that the first time.
As far the respect thing goes:
I feel you do a better job of demonstrating that when you address people by their chosen nickname's then you do by taking liberties with their nicks but that is just me so...

Indulge me for a second while I take a few steps back in this thread.

I am sorry if you took that comment that way.
It was never my intention to imply anything of that sort. ;)

PM me your address, and I'll mail you the cookie anyway. Simply because I love you so much. :D

Post adjusted for your viewing pleasure....was just in a hurry to type =)

Pfunk, what cans did you end up getting....all this talk about the 595s making me wanna pick up a set. Since i got a amp coming....hoping my little go vibe can push a 120ohm can (595 120ohm correct?)

the current iteration of the 595's are 50ohm. and a govibe can drive the 595's, whether 50 or 120 ohm.
