so my ibm deathstar 40gig finally started going on me, seems the motor is dying. i've been too busy with WoW since it released to keep up with all the little details... are seagate barradcudas still king for SATA? gonna hook into my abit kv8 pro as a boot drive. looking on newegg i'll probably pick this 120gig up for $60

basically just want to make sure i'm makin a good choice here.
 
I've used a number of Western Digital and Seagate SATA2 drives for recent builds, never had a problem with either.
Personally, I would be looking at a 250 or 320 GB drive with a 16mb cache. Not much more expensive ($70-$85) and more space per dollar.
 
I can't comment on the SATA part specifically, but Seagate gets a thumbs up from me. :D
 
I'd tend to stay away from the 7200.9s as a boot disk. They're fine for STR-like apps like media storage, and their environmentals are pretty good IIRC, but the seek performance and buffer strategy that boot times and games benefit from just aren't there.
