I just picked up a SATA 250gb WD drive.. I also picked up Ghost 10.. I was wondering if its best to just reinstall the OS onto the new drive or can I use Ghost and copy it from my old ATA drive? Which would yield more stability.. This is my first SATA drive I've owned..
 
Ghosting it should work just fine. We have to do batches of 10-50 at work, and it has no problem with stability.
 
If you are going from the old standard IDE (Pata) to Sata then you might have an issue. You at least need to install the drivers for the SATA controler in the OS before you transfer.
 
Agree with above, you need to install SATA driver before ghosting.

Hookup the SATA drive but boot off the current drive, install drivers, reboot until you're able to detect and work with the SATA drive (feel free to quick format it just to test it out first, the ghosting process will override that later).

Now use Ghost 10 to clone from the PATA to the SATA. When complete, unplug the PATA drive to be sure it boots from the SATA drive. You may wish to change BIOS boot order if you plan to keep the PATA connected in the future.

I just did this exact process in January, PATA 120GB -> SATA 250GB
