My friend just installed a new 120GB 7200 WD HDD on an older Compaq computer who's harddrive shat the bed. The jumpers are correctly set to master, and the computer is detecting it properly in the BIOS, but on boot it get's to the compaq logo and hard restarts. Any ideas on how to fix it?

You said the Bios saw the hdd correctly....did it see the SIZE correctly or did it also see the parameters correctly? I've seen Bioses detect the correct size, but setting the parameters incorrectly, eg. putting it in "large" mode instead of "LBA" or similar. That's the first thing I'd check...
