I need a new hd to back stuff up to and I figure a 250 or 300 will do. I'm backing up 3x20GB network drives (which then will be backed up to tape). I've heard (and had) bad experiences with the maxtor ones so I was considering a 250 Western Digital. Any advice?

Yeah, I'd agree but the Western Digital and Seagate seem to last longer than the Maxtors I've used (this is from several hundred computers and obviously a biased analysis). I've heard some people suggest the 80GB Seagate over WD's and the 120GB WD over Seagate's. I wondered if there was any known issues with WD's 250 (besides the >137GB issue). Thanks for the links though.

well....

based on what Ive seen here
Seagates rarely are the subject of problems
that might be in large part because they arent purchased as often (in ATA) within the membership
and I also personally think they have a better shipping container\strategy
(and arent as often shipped to Retail outlets with 800lb Gorillas disguised as stockboys :p )
