New HD Install

put a new hard drive in my computer tonight, put the xp cd in....hooked it all up. my computer is running extremly slow. am i suppose to do something in the bios for it to run better? its really noisy too.... granted its a bigger HD, but i didnt think it would be that loud. its a WD800JBRTL
 
It's probably in PIO instead of DMA. To fix it:

1. Device Manager
2. Right click the drive
3. Go to uninstall
4. Reboot Windows

After you reboot, Windows shall install the drive in DMA Mode. To check if it is in DMA or PIO in Device Manager right click then Properties. Go to Advanced Settings and in there it will show you.
