New Harddrive trouble?!?!

I just got a new Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3300622AS 300GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM over at newegg (link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148110) and right when i got it first thing i noticed was no jumper on the back and another little 4 pin plug (smaller then a floppy power plug). Also it has no molex power connection, instead it has a SATA connector that goes into my PS and a SATA cable to my mobo

I have never seen this before (right now running a WD Raptor 74GB w/ the molex power and SATA) and right now my HD isn't even being recognized. I'm wondering 1. Is it even getting any power? 2. if it is, is my SATA to mobo cable bad? plx help, need the space asap!
 
Alright, I tested out the cables and the cables are fine, they both work on my Raptor, power and all. However, whenever I try and just plug in my 300GB it isn't even showing up in the POST. just says [none]. I have an ASUS A8V-E Deluxe MOBO. If anyone has any info/suggestions plz help. :confused: :confused: :confused:
 
Can you feel the drive spin up? Latest BIOS on MB? Everything set up correctly in BIOS? Maybe try loading defaults. After that it is most probably RMA time?

I've just bought a 300Gb SATA drive myself, but avoided the seagate 7200.9 as it's SATA II and some (slightly older) motherboards can't understand them. I don't know if this is your trouble.

I bought a Maxtor SATA II drive, because they come with a jumper setting to force them to play as a SATA I drive. As I expected, my (slightly older) motherboard wouldn't talk to it without having the 'force SATA I' jumper in place.

It might be worth you trying to find out if there's a jumper you can switch on the drive before giving up on it. I tried looking on the seagate websites a few weeks ago, but couldn't confirm that there is such a jumper, hence I bought a Maxtor (my second choice).
 
yeah, I updated my bios, and it still didn't work and was getting very frustrated until I saw Condemmed's post.

I then realized this was the problem, found the fix on seagates website (THEY FINALLY HAVE A JUMPER!) w/ a google search, put the jumper on and viola!!! 300GB of happiness!!! :D :cool: :D :cool:

I think by both he meant the SATA power connector, and SATA data/motherboard connector.
