I am thinking about getting two new SATA hard drives either 120 or 160 GB. what drives should i get. also what is the best way to set them up for best performance.

this is my computer setup i have WinXP home SP1

Asus a7n8x Deluxe rev 2.0
2500+ 512mb Memory
ATI 9800np
Windows XP Home

which drives are better, Maxtor, WD, Samsung, Seagate or Hitachi.

Stay away from Maxtor!

You would definately not go wrong with Seagate. Hitachi are nice as well.
I have had a WD for quite a few years with no problems at all, although internet reviews do not reflect this. As for Samsung, I have no idea at all.

WD, Maxtor, and Seagate are the most popular I think...I have a WD and a Maxtor and had NO probs with the Maxtor...the WD however I am having probs with after a year BUT you can EASILY get an advance RMA...that way you have another hdd the same size so you can backup your stuff on it...and THEN you can send in your failing hdd...love WD's advance RMA...very good deal on a Seagate right now...check out Hot Deals forum
