I have ran my pc on a western digital WD800 for two years now and its been flawless up until recently. It decided to completely stop working so I went out and bought a new one that just so happened to be another WD800 (I'm poor and i loved my old one), but i cant get windows xp to install. Post recognizes the new hard drive no problem and I can get the Windows XP Home edition cd to petition and format the drive. Immediately after formating it copies a bunch of files to the hard drive then prepares the restart, and from here is where it has many problems. I get 1 of 2 errors everytime it gets to this point. I either get "<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the above file," or i get "A Disk Read Error Occurred." Ive tried reformating many times, ive ran chkdsk, ive tried to use the Repair from the install cd to manually copy the ntoskrnl.exe file over, but nothing works. Chkdsk says it finds one or more erros but repairs them. Is my new hard drive junk and corrupted? Or is there something im missing? Thanks for any and all help :)
