hey all i'm new here and new to ocing too and i have few Q's so here i goes
system
asrock 939 dual sata 2 (vcore modded)
opty 165 (289x9 vcore 1.475)
zalman cnps7000b cooler (idle 33c load 58-60)
2x512 OCZ platinum EL dual ch (2.7volts 2-3-2-6 1T)
bfg ti4200 vga (I'm not much on games)
thermaltake 450 (i think)
case
1 masscool 120mm top ( out)
2 panaflo 92mm in the side (in)
2 unknow 90 mm in the back (out)
4 led 80mm in the front (in)

as u can see i have a heat problem.
I want to reach 2.8 but it is getting to hot i have been thinking about water cooling,
but i read every were of people getting 2.8 on air witch would be great
I've tried lowering vcore but it is not stable at all. At 1.475 vcore it runs 2xPrime
great till it gets to hot same with super pi
I can run 2.5 ghz on stock vcore 1.35 volts
I have even tried loosing up the memory time but no help.
So what do u think should i go with water or stay on air ??
All opinions welcome. If i stay on air i'm open for ideas for cooler
thanks for reading

hey i was thinking of ordering you mobo how do you like it?
i think if you go watercooling you will be spending alot of money but if you have it then get a nice watercooling you have a good overclocking processor so puting watercooling on it would be a complment.

not to get on you or anything but then why are you overclocking most people overclock to squeez some extra performance out of there pc's

the mobo is ok.not for extreme ocing but it does pretty good( solid board )
I encode alot of video and tool around on adobe cs2 so i need a fast system
to keep up with what i want to do.
well if it's going to cost me more than 80 bucks i mite as well come off a little more cheese
and do water cooling

what kind of reliablity does water cooling have???

Why do you think??? To fscking run programs with... People use computers for shit besides games and benchmarks, dude.

To the OP: Water will take a lot of time and money. It sounds like you might be better off buying a new proc and selling this one. Unless you really want to try water just for fun. I didn't get 2.8 with my 165, either. But it is still the fastest PC I've ever used @ 2650. Post pics of your setup with airflow diagram, then we can give better advice on cooling.

Hey funkyfish I think that 7000Cu may be holding you back a bit especially on the load temps. If you're game for a challenge install the Ninja Plus and watch your temps drop. Even the 7700Cu would drop your temps a bit. The Arctic Cooler Freezer 64 Pro is an excellent price/performance cooler that'll get you better cooling than your 7000. Lots of options out there. :)
