i just downloaded the program and signed up for team 33, hardocp

but when i check my cpu usage, its showing only using 50-58% usage?

is there something im missing?

i went into configure and turned up the cpu usage that it could use to 100%...

do i have to have the screen saver running to make it go 100%?

thanks guys :) hope my small contribution helps (just a 3.0 pentium 4 with 800 mhz fsb)

not overclocked or anything, but i know last time i did a benchmark on it, it was very bad rated, it was horrible, like worse than my old AMD system :/ no idea whats up with that :)

Are you running a P4 w/HT?

HT = 2 cpus in cpu usage
you need to run 2 copies of folding to achieve 100% cpu usage If i remeber correctly.

Yes you do.

Get the console version of F@H. When setting it up, go through and say yes to advanced options, it'll ask about Machine ID. GIve the first instance Machine ID 1, and give the second instance of F@H Machine ID 2.

You will end up having 2 folders with the F@H client in it..you need to open them up seperately and go through the motions. Pretty much just agree to the defaults (They are in ( ) cept when it comes to name, team and machine ID.

Dang walk away for a second and bing bang boom the answer was in. Well.........next question!

my first frame is at 50% now, only 2500 more left! eek

dont worry, most of the time they get done quite quick. Max would be couple of days. ;)

wait by console do you mean i have to download the no nonsense text console? or do i just reinstall the graphical client.

Sorry NOOB :)

the no nonsense text console.... dl to the directory you want to run it from... (not your graphical directory. and run it like mentioned before.

The [H]orde needs You!

Console good.

Turn off hyperthreading if you don't have a need for it. It'll run a bit faster that way.

From Stanfords point of view, they would perfer you only run one instance. The box is running at 100%, it's just windows is not reporting it.

Most of the time, you can get an overall points per week increase of 10-30% from what I've read. I don't run HT machines with two instances, after screwing it up a few times, having work units getting stuck--- I just did things the easy way and ran one instance.

You can turn off HT in the bios, it won't really make a differance to the fold times.

Actually from Stanfords point of view they say they want it back ASAP, but then give ridiculous deadlines. I'm running a bunch of 1140's, preferred due date 36 days, time for credit 82 days. or darn near 3 months! Now for some reason my dogs are slow, each one is taking about 7 days. However since VERY FEW peeps can run at over 4 Ghz, there is probably noone turning it in overnight. I THINK that if you grab a protein and fold it within half the time that VJ wants it back you are crankin'.
So I say HT to the max - tis' better to turn in 1.3 proteins per time period than 1.

HT is emulated multi-cpu, not actual multi-cpu. It's slightly faster when it's not doing HT-mode, which is why it has an option to let you disable it. Unless you actually have two seperate physical processors (or dual core once it gets here) you should only be running one instance of F@H.

Marty just said as much.
