Hey guys, thought I'd bow to the tech guru's and get an opinion.

Been trying to play Call of Duty : black ops on my 9800 gt, but it's about time for an upgrade.
I saw an article in the Austin paper about a company that leases high end cards.

I was thinking about leasing the 580 GTX from them and using their upgrade thing later. I think it's only about 50 bucks a month so I think I could swing that. Any one have any thoughts about if this would help my game run a little better?

Leasing a graphics card? man.. buy a 6850 or GTX460 1gb. If you can't afford it, wait a couple months and save those $50 a month and buy one. ~3 months after that you can buy a 2nd one, and voila- you OWN the cards that have approximately equal performance to a 580.
 
I saw a GTX 460 1gb on sale for $150 the other day, watch some deal forums and get something like that.

+1, you don't need a GTX 580 to run COD. A GTX 460 paid in full is just fine.
Try to buy all your stuff cash, if you can't then it's not for you. Avoid credit cards and leasing by any means.

Save the 50.00 a month and pick up a 460 or if you can't wait then sell your card and pick up a 260. But I'm sure the fs/ft forums will have some 460's or equivalent on there.
 
Screen resolution?? I honestly am surprised the 9800GT can't max that antique engine
 
Dear lord, leasing video cards. Now that is something you don't hear about everyday, but please just buy the 460 & enjoy!
 
Think about it this way: The company who buys the card makes money off leasing it to you. Don't fall for gimmicks like this.

Dang my proc must be bottlenecking me worse than I thought!

At that res with no AA and no AF only on High settings on my 470+ I'm getting some lag. Avg around 30 fps with horrible drops in heavy areas.

Poor e6550 has served me well....Q6600 on its way to hold me over until Sandy bridge...

what bothers me though is that my proc is running at 3.15 ghz (oc) so it should run smooth....now i'm wondering...

Do the new Nvidia beta drivers increase performance in cod black ops? That could also be part of my problem.

~~EDIT: nevermind I have the latest drivers - i thought a newer version came out but it didn't.
 
lol, am still running on an 8800gt and it still runs COD black ops just fine @ 1920x1200 2x anti atlasing and 16x antistrophic

I've got my 8800gt sitting beside me, i could plug her back in to play black ops and see if maybe the 470 is dying :p
 
If you decide to go GTX 460 the coolers that Gigabyte is putting on their Super Overclock Series is amazing! My card runs about 24-26C on idle and while playing a game it is 45-54C depending on how graphic intensive it is. overclock the videocard, also how much did you pay for the Q6600??

Set "Sync Every Frame" to "No" in the video settings.
Your fps should go up.

Just curious, C2Q's are overpriced but that's a fair price I guess. If it can get to 3.6ghz or higher than it was worth it.
I bought a $60 x4 620 for my cousin and got it to 3.4ghz :D, best deal ever! (and on a $55 motherboard at that)
 
Yeah I'm hoping to get to atleast 3.6. I'm aiming for 4.0
I'm hoping it will hold me out until atleast later in the game of Sandy bridge when prices become reasonable on those chips.
 
When you speak of leasing, it's really what we do anyway.
You buy a new 580 and use it for 6 months or a year and then upgrade and sell the old card.

Say you "lost" 125 dollars over the 6 months....roughly 25 a month to own the thing anyway.

I'd still recommend buying the best card you can afford.

I'm using SLi'd 260 GTXs to play BOps in Surround and it plays very well on all high settings with no AA.:p
 
Leasing a high-end video card could actually make a lot of sense. High end video cards experience rapid depreciation in the year after they're first introduced to the market. If what you end up paying is equal to or less than the depreciation the card experiences during the time you use it, you're a winner.
