Hello,

This is my first post and it regards a choice I have to make next week.

My current GPU died out and I’ll need to get a new one. Below are the GPUs I’m considering. I live in Europe so you’ll see the prices in Euros.

I could really use some help choosing between these graphics cards. I was also considering the Gigabyte GTX970 G1 GAMING 4GB, but realized it’s too big for my tower. I’m mainly wondering if it’s worth to spend the extra money on the EVGA card since I’ve read many good things about the MSI card and it’s considerably cheaper.

EVGA GTX970 FTW ACX2.0 4GB DDR5 (04G-P4-2978-KR) – 429€ (3 years warranty)
MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G DDR5 (GV-N970G1-GAMING-4G) – 379€ (2 years warranty)

Thanks

My current Rig:
CPU: Intel 1155 i7 2600 Box (3,40GHz)
GPU: EVGA GTX 570 1280MB DDR5 PCI-E
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 PRO REV 3.0
Tower: COOLERMASTER DOMINATOR 690 II ADVANCED
PSU: CORSAIR HX-650W
Fan: ARCTIC COOLING FREEZER 7 PRO REV 2
RAM: GSKILL KIT 8GB DDR3 1600MHZ RIPJAW (CL9)
SSD#1: SAMSUNG SSD 256GB SATA 3 Serie 840 Pro
SSD#2: OCZ SSD VERTEX 2 60GB SATA 2.5” (R 285MB / W 275MB)
HDD: SAMSUNG 1TB SATA II 32MB F3
DVD: ASUS DVD±R 24X DRW-24B3ST BLACK BULK (SATA)
Monitor: SAMSUNG TFT 23" BX2331 2MS – LED
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64BITS

No its certainly not worth it to spend that much more for the EVGA. The MSI GTX 970 Gaming is a damn good card.

Thanks for the fast reply.

I was looking at the MSI card and the cooling pipes are a bit on top of the power connectors. I suppose there is no interference or damage occurring over time due to this?

Its not an issue at all. The connectors are flipped so its easy to plug and unplug and no interference at all.

Well that sounds like good news.

I was initially also considering the Asus Strix GTX 970, but never heard great things about it so ended up loosing interest in it.

The MSI card will probably be th winner here.

Thanks for the help

Get the MSI. EVGA's various coolers were not as good as the MSI/ASUS/some other brands. I think the ACX 2.0 cooler is better than the ACX, but it still did not seem to be as efficient if I recall.

The EVGA does have a longer warranty, but it is probably not worth an extra 50 Euros (~$57 USD).

Well then unless there are other suggestions for a better GPU in that price range the MSI card wins!

Thanks for the help!

MSI is riding high tide right now, that's where my cash would go to.

Considering both cards go for the same price point here in the US, sounds like someone is bumping the margin on the EVGA

Something I forgot to ask, I can't seem to find the proper number reference for this card model.

On the website I can only see "GTX 970 GAMING 4G", but I think the reference is some other number.

Does anyone know?

I remembered this because the webpage of the local store I will be using does not mention the model number. I just to make sure I'm not getting the wrong one.

You can get a GTX 970 Mini for about the same price. Basically the same card half the size
