So my XFX 7970 broke recently and I have been looking at GPUs.
I noticed 295X2s going cheap.

I am torn between low power (GTX970).
Future Upgradability (XDMA CF).
Or instant GPU muscle (295X2).

I am worried my PSU isnt nearly strong enough So do i need a new PSU for the 295X2 or should I skip the 295X2 and opt for the other two cards.
What do you guys think?
 
he just means regular AMD crossfire versus the 295x2

The 295x2 is a monster, id go for that if you can afford it.

But if you want to save a few bucks, go for 2x290 crossfire (XDMA). They are embarrassingly cheap right now.
 
I would vote for the 970, CF is a hit or miss thing at best.
Get the most powerful single core card that you can afford.
 
bro, you have an XFX. They have some of the best RMA support. contact the xfx guy here.

next, honestly, I'd get a better cpu, and wait for the mighty 390x
 
No support for my GPU via the XFX Guy.
Apparently my 7970 only had a two year warranty. I feel really screwed over by XFX.

Also not sure what XDMA has to do with future upgrades.

Crossfire with low latency and good frame times means I would be willing to buy another 290 down the road....

Your PSU may handle a 295x2, [H]ard's review showed 730w under load. But you'd be cutting it close.

I dont know how my PSUs 12V line is and I know thats important.

That changed years ago, it used to be XFX gave their cards lifetime warranties. Why do you think AMD fans were so excited. The policy change happened after the 7970 launch in 2012. Most consumers did not know they had changed the policy. 2 years on an almost 600 dollar GPU is a slap to the face.
Knowing they cover 7970DDs but not my Ref7970 is just insulting.

I pulled that from their site yesterday and they updated their website so it's not like it's old information that just didn't get changed.
 
R9 290s are in the $240-$270 range with MIR/AR hanky panky. Can't really beat that kind of performance for that kind of price. $325+ GTX970s should not even be discussed when 290s are a good $50-100 less and perform nearly as well.

What does pulling something from a website yesterday have to do with me buying a GPU three years ago? At that time the XFX double lifetime warranty was still strong in advertising and forum talk. That warranty is what gave XFX a huge reputation in AMD circles right off that bat. The fact that the Double Dissipation 7970s get lifetime warranties is just a big slap in the face to early adopting owners of the 7970.

Yeah the price of the 290s is great, and with the GTX970 now dealing with a hardware VRAM glitch, the 290s are looking better and better.
