1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming - swtor, bf3, wow. web browsing. some photoshop
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$500-600 tax & shipping inc
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
US - Hawaii
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, mobo, cpu cooler & power supply if I can't use my old one
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
GPU (MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III), Monitor, kb, mouse, speakers. Possibly case (Antec 900) & ps (Corsair vx550)

Mainly Crossfire/SLI just in case, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0 would be nice, but not necessary
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yes, win7 64bit

I'm building a new gaming rig for my husband. His old rig is 4 yrs old, but I'm hoping we can still use the power supply. The most important thing is this computer has to be stable, stable, Stable, & Fast!
Will be purchasing from either Newegg, or Amazon, hopefully within the next day or so. Basically, I just need some recommendations for a cpu, mobo & power supply (if needed). Already decided on a xigmatek cpu cooler, & nzxt case, so those aren't included in the budget. Considering either a i5 - 2500k or 2550k (any difference?), & understand going i7 is useless for gaming (correct me if I'm wrong). I have generally liked using Gigabyte mobos, as they have always been stable for me.

Already have:
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB DDR3 1600)
SSD: Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW120G3K5 2.5" 120GB

Considering to buy so far:
CPU:i5-2550k
Heatsink:XIGMATEK Gaia SD1283
Case: Nzxt evo or phantom from amazon

Thanks for all your help!

So no chance of waiting for Ivy Bridge?

HSF wise, I'd go with the Coolermaster Hyper 212+. The main difference between the 2500K and 2550K is that the 2550K does not have onboard video and theoretically can OC higher.

I don't think he can wait another month for IB. He has been wanting a new comp for the past several months, because his runs swtor like crap. But, last week he got spyware on it, so I wanted to do a clean install. I've been considering swapping computers with him for now (I have an i7-920) and just swapping out the vid card & putting in the new ram, but am worried that the power supply is not enough. Also, I'm really lazy to open up both comps & switching out all those components lol. However, if you think my power supply can handle all this, I will seriously consider this & wait for IB to build him a new one. Here are my specs:

CPU:i7-920 @2.67
Mobo:GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R
RAM:will use the new one G.SKILL 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600
GPU:will use his-MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III
Power supply:CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX
in a NZXT evo case running 6 fans, 5 sata hd's, 1 kingston ssd, & 2 optical drives.

I can disconnect most of the hd's & optical drives if I need to. So, do you think I will have any problems running this with the current power supply? Thanks for all your help!

That PSU will be fine for that setup even with the extra drives. Just don't OC the CPU.

No prob. When you're ready to build an IB setup, feel free to make a new thread about it.
