Just look for some thoughts on a good gaming laptop.

I have a 1500-2000 dollar budget/

I know I really like ASUS and I want 17.3 inch monitor for sure.

Do you guys have any input on the NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX™ 960M video card?

Also how important is it to have a lot of RAM.

I play games like Total ROME, Starcraft 2, Civilization 5, XCOM, World of Warcraft, etc.
 
It would probably be better to just get a smaller, more portable laptop and a monitor on the side. I have yet to encounter a laptop screen without severe ghosting/smearing.
As for gpu, I'd go for the 970m just to be a bit more future proof. Ram, 8gb is fine IF it's able to be upgraded, 12gb or 16gb if it is not.

What laptop screens made in the last 6 years have you been using?

Maybe the "consumer" oriented ones. I am not sure as I have not had a craptastic quality laptop for about 10 years.

The Dell Latitude and Precision screens are pretty nice. I have played a few games on the M4600 and M4800 and I haven't noticed smearing or ghosting at all.

Even the really old Latitude e64xx and e65xx models don't have smearing or ghosting.

Now back in the early to mid 2000s, the laptop screens were pretty bad as far as lag/refresh, which is what I would call ghosting. After about 2006-2007 they got a lot better.
