Alright I have decided to pull the trigger for the new build, and was wondering if anything should be changed. My budget is going to be 2200, I am planning on grabbing the q6600 when it drops in July but I'm going to start buying some of the things that dont change price wise case, monitor, psu and the such. So assuming I have the q6600 how does this build look, I am planning on using it as a high end gaming machine/video editing, and a store of a lot of movies lol. somethings I am concerned about, my video card, I dont want to go all out and buy an expensive video card solution bc I want to see what happens in sept-nov. And also a motherboard that can be upgraded sometime next year with the new intels that come out. So here is the build.

Total 1,738.88 and that doesnt include the monitor, thanks for the help. :D

umm. Harddrives are a little large. ide recommend
1 - 200gb for games. appz.
1 - 400gb for windows..downloads and such.

Second tip. Search for Deals. You can save a lot of money doing so. EG: Memory is dirt cheap now. You can get great ram for very cheap. $100 for Crucal ballistix pc8000 2 gb.
off of buy.com and they are great for overclocking. i mean thats for example.

Motherboard. Spend a little more money into the motherboard and get the A1 Evga board. Better results from that board then the TR.

PSU everyone is gonna say corsair 620 watt. Which is much cheaper then the one listed.. and great if you want to go SLI.

I agree, you'll definately need the A1 revision eVGA board if you're goin with a quad core.

2x2GB of ram for $240 isn't too bad, but you don't need DDR2-800 with a Q6600. Go for some DDR2-667 instead and save $20... not that it matters, considering your budget, but still... lol.

What size monitor do you plan on getting? This will determine the vidcard and PSU.

Ide recommend for gaming. 22"

I do enjoy gaming on my Dell2407 rev04. Love it actually. But it all depends

If you get higher then 22" 8800GTX + 620watt psu or higher

I put the same hard drive when I was asking about my build a few months ago. Someone said "why 7200.9?" I said "Should I not?" He said "NO! 7200.10 is faster". And it's true, these hard drives are great. they're only like $5 more on Newegg. But faster.

qft. i didnt notice it earlier.

Thanks for the help, my birthday present was a samsun 22inch, so I'll guess I'll need a gtx to play it then, and I'll leave the power supply the same even though I've heard a lot of great things about the corsair. I do have a question about that, I was reading over at firingsquad that they lose some of their power due to their modular design is there any truth to that? Alright so here go the changes

I'm removing these

-3 Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3400833AS 400GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

- 1 EVGA 122-CK-NF63-TR LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

total amount of the changes
240 dollars and and bringing the cost of my new rig to 2028.88, anything else you would suggest? Thanks for the help. There are some rebates on parts that I'm not including in the cost, bc I want a picture of how much out of pocket it's going to cost me.

Well it's personal preference, but I think that the Raptors are becoming excess noise and kind of a waste of money. Yes things will load faster, but meh... the 7200.10's are getting close to the Raptor's speed. And for a whole lot less.

And also, I think that with a 22" screen, a GTS would be just fine for you, it's only 1680x1050. But then again, it might be considered a bit of future proofing if your games run TOO good right now at that res, that they should run just fine in a year ;)

I was hoping I would hear that bc I didnt really want to spend the money on a raptor, and if i wanted to I could take the money I would spend on it and get a 8800gtx. Also I was wondering does anyone know of any tv tuners that work in vista 64 bit, I havent been able to find a good one yet.

Glad I could be of service :D

Go with the EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 instead. Much better for quad cores.
