New G27 wheel

Sweet. Glad I didnt buy a G25 yet, though I doubt the differences will be that drastic, but every little bit helps. Hopefully NFS Shift will be as good as it sounds.

Yeah I wish M$ would support the Logitechs as well, but the Fantecs are also pretty good looking. Not as many features though.

I saw that they have a G25 for the Playstation 3 which would be cool to use once I get Gran Turismo 5, but by the looks of it the G25 looks exactly the same as the pictures of the G27. I had a quick question too... I have never bought a racing wheel before and was curious how they work, but more specifically how it compares to arcade wheels (actual arcade machine wheels). I remember playing Crusin' World in the arcades when I was younger and the wheel would move by itself at times... like I would turn and it would automatically want to turn the other way... is that what this is like? That always annoyed me in the arcades...

And also, what's the real difference between all those on Logitech's website? $300 is a hell of a lot of money to spend on a wheel that I may only play one game with... They have the Driving Force GT and the Driving Force Pro and I was just curious what would be the better deal? the only differences I can see is that the G25 has a lot of buttons on it for some reason which I have no idea what the uses could be and has a clutch pedal...

So basically I'd just like some feedback to those who have any of those or have experience with driving wheels and as far as what I can expect and whether it's worth it or not. I don't really have a desk I could mount it on so that also confuses me, and how the gas and brake pedals would stay put on a hardwood floor. I imagine it slipping all over the place.

ive always wondered if such things existed... i might play more driving sims on the computer...

I have a G25 and unless you are HARDCORE "go home get online by 7:30 or you miss the starting grid in your online race".......you will be perfectly happy with a Driving Force GT which can be had for as low as $50 (a while back from costco).

I bought a G25 using a retail employee discount at $125 so $250 is a jacked up price. Logitech also gives these things out for free like candy. When I had a problem with my pedals they sent me a whole new G25 which I sold on eBay for $225 and fixed my old one.......

The clutch and 6 speed is nice, but is not needed at all. The shifter has no feel and the noise it makes from each shift makes you think it's going to break in less than a second.

The best combo right now is a Logitech GT and club sport pedals from Fanatec. Although it's only compatible with the PC because the pedals are USB.

$250.......:p Logitech gives them out like candy.

so youre saying the g25 h-pattern shift is basically too cheap to be useful? i understand a lot of games wouldnt really benefit from clutches and pattern shifting... but other games i cant see how it would hurt. but if the wheel youre using sucks, then yeah. maybe the g27 fixed the shifter quality...

also, i can see how clutch use would be kind of a novelty.... without tactile feedback from a running engine, it would be hard to really get a feel with the clutch.

:( They made me send in my shifter.

I have LFS full account, iRacing full account, Richard Burns Racing + 2008 mod, GT5P, Test drive online, GTR2 + evolution, Rfactor, so I would say I have most simulation games available for the PC so I know how useful or not the H-shifter is and I would say no it isn't useful.

I drive a manual car and the only thing that is useful about the G25's H-shifter is learning how to heel/toe using the clutch. I never knew how to heel/toe until I practiced with the G25.

Also the Logitech GT is known to have even or better force feedback than a G25 and it also has a larger diameter wheel making it a much better purchase than the G25 or even a G27.

Interesting. I asked the same question in the GT5 thread. How it compares with the G25. If the force feedback is actually better, I doubt I'll miss the clutch or gated shifter. I think I'll look for a deal on a driving force GT unless they close out the G25s at ridiculous prices, or someone hooks me up with an employee discount. :p

From looking at the pictures, it looks to me like they scrapped the sequential shift toggle, which is really one of the major downfalls of the H shifter from a mechanical point of view. Perhaps by doing this, the mechanism can be a lot simpler and more robust.

LOL, I couldn't help but laugh at this:

It would not be unreasonable to expect the G27 to hit at roughly the same time as GT5…

The release of the Driving Force Pro was something like a half-year before GT4 finally came out... I remember I bought a DFP for GT4, and was able to use it to play through GT3, then GT2, etc, then to get bored with it, then to just get bored with life, and starting wondering why I ever bought it... That was just about the time GT4 finally came out...

So, no, the release of the G27 will have nothing to do with GT5 becoming the new DNF...

Considering the other stuff I can use the G27 for, who cares about GT5 anyway?

Also, I agree about the G25. I don't care much for it. Might end up saying the same thing about the G27, but I'm sure I'll still get one...

Otherwise I guess I'll have to just give up on driving/racing sims, or just finally get a real combo like ECCI... Big step in price though to go from ~$300 to upwards of $2K...

I am with most of you guys on this one, I have a Driving Force Pro that I bought when it first came out and finished GT3 with it, and used it to play through GT4, and then I got a computer and have played a ton of games with it. The pedals were messed up, but I opened them up and fixed them and never had a problem again. I would like a G27, but it will depend on how much of an improvement there is over the G25. I was messing with the Driving Force GT today and it feels way better than the Driving Force Pro, so it would be a nice upgrade, but I figure if I am gonna upgrade, I might as well go all the way for the G27 when it comes out. I have used my DFP enough to justify its purchase, and with rFactor 2, NFS Shift, and Dirt 2 coming out soon I will definitely get plenty of use out of it. Codemasters will also be coming out with a Formula 1 game for the PC sometime soon as well. Damn, I think I just talked myself into spending more money lol.

I still use my Microsoft FFB wheel that is near ten years old now.

Only tested the DFP GT briefly but it felt exactly like a smaller G25 for me. Someone in here say the DFP GT have a wider diametre wheel is that really right??

G27 will be better for console racing then the G25 due to 6-buttons on the wheel instead of two. I don´t believe for a second the GT would have better force feedback then the G25/G27. I suspect they will be identical internally. But for console racing I would probably go for the GT for more buttons. I am running the Fanatec wheels so I don´t really care much about the G25/G27 either. Unless they change to belt drive or some major internal changes to improve the feel and force feedback. Hopefully they as mentioned scrap the universal shifter solution. I could never use it as sequential so perhaps just an H-shifter would work better.

GT 11" diameter thick wheel
G25 270 mm = 10.6 inches" thin wheel

I made a mistake when saying the FFB can be better than a G25 or a G27, but that's stupid since the G27 isn't even spec'd yet. Some people prefer the combination of the GT's wheel shape + nearly the same FFB to the G25 than to an actual G25. I know I do; the wheel on a G25 is too small and thin.

My next wheel won't be from Logitech anyway, I really want to try to new Fanatec clubsport GT3 wheel + pedals.

and with rFactor 2, NFS Shift, and Dirt 2 coming out soon

rFactor 2? How did I miss that? (I haven't messed with rFactor in a while...)

I'm googling, but can't find any rumored release dates? Anyone?

Couldn´t agree more about the G25... But one of the big features of the G27 is a thicker wheel. Still look way thinner then especially the turbo S grip. GT 3 RS have thumb grooves so it´s a bit thinner.

Fanatec wheel is larger (300 mm) but it would be nice with an even larger wheel that´s for sure.

The G27 better have brake pedal feedback. I got very sick and tired of watching tire smoke in GT4, because I was trying to go from real cars to sim. :p

rFacotor just had a pretty good 1970 GTR mod released for it. Now you can pretend you are Steve McQueen racing at LeMans.

Same here, excpet that my brake pedal spring broke a few days ago. Ebayed for a new wheel, thought it was a FF one, but it turns out I ended up getting the non-FF version, however I was only after the pedals. Bought for £99 and the delivery is £10. :p

Yeah - whe nI was in a shop in Russia, I felt the G25 and I was really surprised by how thin it was, made me wonder why it was so popular for a second.

As far as Fanatec wheels go - which one is supposedly better the GT3 RS or the Turbo S?

The seem quite similar only that they might be different in sizes as well as being a bit differently shaped - thumbgrips and such.

Can you elaborate on that? Link perhaps? ^_^

http://www.nixim.com/pedmod.html

I used it and it´s superb... But it requires firm mounting of the pedals and no chair with wheels on. So some kind of cockpit since you get a stiff brake with progressive resistance :)

Might also add that for it to work you need to be able to apply roughly a 50 % deadzone. Maybe issues with console games. For PC there is diview or dxtweak 2 if not in game settings is enough. This is because the rubber don´t start to work until you push the brake pedal 50 %... The brake travel is ridiculously long to start with anyway and you can rest the feet on the brake without activating it so it´s not a problem being fast on the brake. May even be faster since you can apply prepressure :)

But it´s mainly for simracing if you want a pedal which you can feel better. It´s easier to judge brake pressure by just that pressure rather then how far you move your leg.

As for GT 3 RS or Turbo being better. Turbo S have Xbox 360 and official PS 3 support. The RS is mentioned to have "limited support" so there is no guarantees that the GT 5 will for example work with the RS. No 360 support on the RS.

Otherwise except for back lit buttons and wireless versus wired (I preferr wired) the only major difference anyway is the wheel grip. Diameter is the same but the Turbo S have leather and not Alcantara. And no thumb grip or racing stripe.

Alcantara is always grippy and not sweaty though I didn´t have any big problems with the Turbo S. But I am not prown to hand sweat anyway. Otherwise if you have big hands you may preferr the Turbo S. Smaller hands you may be thankful for the thumb grips. I had the 911 turbo before and as I mention in the review I am not sure which grip I preferr. (Both is superb and nothing to complain about). Guess I will see when I get my Turbo S but the RS should probably be compatible with more hands. What I liked with the Turbo grip was that it fitted my hands like a glove and felt superb for F1. Thicker grip then the real cars I have even but I do have quite large hands I have been told :)

I see, thanks for the input!

They are quite a bit [cost], but if I ever get the chance to try either out IRL I might start saving up for one.

Wow, I was about to jump on a G25 pretty soon, good thing.

Same.

What? It´s essentially for free can´t impossible be more cheap :)

Can't find a replacement spring down at the hardware store? I lube my springs with silicon lube so maybe it will last me another ten years if I'm lucky.

Yes even homeless guys can get 10$ in no time :)... It´s no money at all and I am not filthy rich :D

Good deal, I may have to perform this little mod. Thanks for the link.

Any recent news about the G27?

I would buy a G25 but the shifter is terrible cheap plastic all around. If the G27 overhauls the shifter then I'll buy it.

I have the G25 and it provides a much better experience drifting in LFS vs. the DFP. If you need more feedback crank up the forces.
