New folding live cd does not work :( early exception rip

When it goes to boot i get some strange error

early exception rip ffffffff807caac5 error 2 cr2 898D

now i tried an older version of the cd i still had downloaded and it loads just fine, but it wont get workunits, i assume the server or whatever changed.

does anyone know how to fix this?

it is booting the 64bit folding client for my IBM Eserver 325 Dual opteron

The new CD has a bunch of extra options on it (I'm confused with 1/2 of em)

I'm not sure what to say.

I'd try to generate another iso image from the site and burn it again in case your download was corrupted. I'm running the new version as well as EvilAlchemist and FLECOM (I think).

Here's a link to the Diskless Folding virtual Appliance support thread. It's not the EXACT same thing you're running,(VMware uses the same iso image as this though) but notfred is active in this thread and you'll get an answer pretty quick I think.

i burned another cd and same problem, its something to do with a new kernel version of linux that is being used, an older version of the live cd works fine.

Hang on.. I'm uploading my copy to RS right now if you want to try it and see if you get the same problem..

edit: If you're interested in trying this it's the copy I generated and have been running for the past 3 days since it came out. I'm running it right from the iso in VMware so I haven't tried burning it, but it shouldn't matter for this test. It's setup with my userid so just burn and fire it up and see if you get the same problem. If so, I'd head over to that forum link and get Notfred involved.

It sounds like it's not detecting your CPU properly. Is that a 64 bit processor? I'm not real familiar with the AMD procs.

yes it is, 2X 2.0GHZ opteron motherboard

The problem is you have a dual opty with only one memory bank populated. There are two ways to work around this. Put memory in the other bank or pass a kernel paramater which I dont think you can do with a folding CD.

ok i have 2 GB in the system, i will move 1 GB to the other bank and see if it works,

still it worked with the previous version of the folding cd, is this something with a newer kernel?

I'm not sure how new of an issue it is, but it is rather recent that I've been seeing discussion of it.

OK sweet it works now! i'm not sure how the memory banks work out on this machine,

both of my DIMM's were in slot 5+6 and were in a different location than the other 4 DIMM slots that are all bundled together, but i moved 1 to DIMM slot 1 and kept one in DIMM slot 6

i don't know if the system should run like this, in my quick installation manual i have it says you should have memory in slots 5+6 for dual CPU configuration

this is what my system looks like, as i said moved DIMM 5 to slot 1 and it works now,

sorry if this is a noob question i don't have much experience with these nice servers like this i got this for an awesome deal on ebay for $135+ shipping

That doesn't sound right. If you have 2 procs installed, why would you not want memory for both?

But, as I always say, if it ain't broke, dont fix it.
