Hey guys.
I jsut started folding for the Horde about 2 weeks ago. I've installed the client on the following comps thus far:
Dual 1ghz Power Mac G4 (1.5gb ram) (24X7)
AMD 64 3500+ (1gb ram) (...most of the time)

I also borged my cousin's computer (Dell P4 2.2ghz).

Now, my question is this. If I went on the sly, and borged a few of the campus machines, would it actually be worth anything? In the library, for example, the rigs are P4 2.6 ghz machines, that just sit at the Windows Login screen. (The one where you have to hit ctrl-alt-del to bring up a password prompt). Now, if I installed a client on these, would it stay running in the background even though it's at the login screen, or would it just kick into folding when someone logged on?

Thanks
-Ghent (Jeeves350z for the [H]orde)

Those would be great on one condition... you have permission. Borging is strictly out unless you've been given the go ahead. We don't want any bad to come to the team or the project, and people and teams have been removed for improper activities of this sort. If you can get the OK, that's going to be a wonderful addition, otherwise just keep your eyes open for any other borgs. Welcome to the team!

As he said, with permission.
If you install the text client and run it as a service it will run even when the computer is at teh login screen. You'll need to be logged in as an administrator to install the service.

Other option is the screen save, it would run while on the logon screen only when the screen saver is active. I think you have to have admin rights to change the system screensave too.

Welcome to the [H]orde!

make sure you get permission (look at Moose's announcement at the top of the forum)

and, yes, with the service installer it will run even if it's at the logon screen.

Yeah, get permission like the other guys said...and make sure you're running two copies of folding on that dual Power Mac.
