New fold-server release

Look in /opt/bootlocal.sh. It should have a line with mini_httpd on it, a line with nmbd, and one with smbd. There should be no #es at the beginning of these lines.

There is no 'httpd' as such, it's mini_httpd, and the config is in /etc, so you run it like this: "mini_httpd -C /etc/mini_httpd.conf".

Like what? It probably works if it's a usb pen or something. If it's a digital camera or a scanner or something, it probably won't.

For usb pens, just plug it in and it should give a message (on the console) about new usb storage device sda, and then just do "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/somewhere" and replace somewhere with a directory that exists. You can make a new directory in /mnt by saying "mkdir /mnt/newdir".

I guess I should have specified, the USB network device from another thread is what I was wondering about.

I haven't tried one of those, I have no idea whether it's supported. This is a wireless device, right? I don't have a wireless network (or one of those cards), so I can't try it.

Try it and see, I guess.

I'm going to be testing this setup out on my mini-farm I'm picking up today. Five 1GHz Optiplex's should make a pretty decent test bed :)

Thanks for doing all the hard work!

Yep, that should pretty nice. If meanieman wins the ebay auction, I'll probably get $200 worth of those boxes to play with. Should be fun :D

Monday I'll have the new wireless device, so I will let you know what I find out. :)

Mage... any chance of making a quick n dirty Linux for the [H] team (noncluster)?
just wondering :)

Yep! I can just (mostly, there's a few changes) package the client in a different way. Would you rather have:
a) bootable CD that runs FAH etc.
or
b) bootable cd that installs to hard drive? CD would be easier, HD would probably be better.

Basically, it'll take me ten minutes either way but I'm too lazy to make both. ;)

The bootCD won't be as network-efficient as the full fold-server, since I can't pre-download the cores and save them anywhere. A hd-based install would be better, since it could save stuff between reboots. What's your preference?

maybe install for now.. we can get you to do the other later :)

plz plz thx u!

I promise not to bid against you on ebay ;)

okay, I promise not to bid on ebay...

but if someone wins, I want five. Unless they're 478 pin p3s...

Nope.

You must be refreshing the forums as much as me :D
It's really bedtime now, but I can't imagine being able to sleep. Or stop posting.
