New Flight Simulator X Rig

Ok, so 2 GB for now, the other 2 with Vista...

But the PSU thing is getting me confused, I know I tried several psu calculators and at load theyre giving me a max of 730w... But some of you are saying that it wont be enough with SLId GTX.

Wait wait... if FSX doesnt support SLI now, does that mean it will never be supported ?

If you stay with one CPU and a reasonable number of HDs (say, less than 8), you'll be perfectly fine with the vast majority of 700-750W PSUs.

The PSU calculators assume worst case scenario with the system fully loaded. You're typically not going to be running every piece in your system full tilt all the time, i.e. reading and writing from the HD, burning a DVD, maxing out your CPU and graphics, etc. all at once. If you plan to do any OCing getting more headroom in your PS isn't such a bad idea though.

Ok third draft, hopefully final one:

WD Raptor 74 GB
WD 250GB
evga 8800GTX
Thermaltake 750w
Scythe Infinity
2x2GB Gskill DDR2 800
eVGA 680i
E6600
+Next Day Saver Shipping

$2,198.50

The other 2 gigs will do good when Vista arrives, hopefully SLI(with this Tt 750w PSU) will be working so the DX10 FSX experience will be awesome.

Am I done here ? :p

Other than playing with the FSX demo I can't really comment in depth, but I'd guess that a patch will enable SLI at some point. It's too critical of a technology for flight sims to not be included at some point.

the newest nvidia drivers has a sli profile for FSX but i heard it doesnt really work.

can anyone with a sli setup shed some light on that?

It's not a Flight Simulator Rig without a Matrox Triple Head 2Go!!!!!!!

http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/review/th2go.htm

Also, you WILL need the extra horsepower of the GTX. 4 gigs is overkill for an XP box, but not necessarily for a Vista box. (Damn OS loads like a gig of RAM with all its services!!)

yeah, cause we all know how powerfiul those triple heads are..lol, thing of the past :)

It has nothing to do with power. What is a thing of the past? Those are (relatively) new. Did you even go to the link?

Matrox can not compete in the 3d market anymore with their triple heads, they have some power, but nothing compared a 7900 / x1900 / 8800.

Matrox purpose for their triple headcards are more for additional monitors / 2D, not for gaming, sure they can game, but they cant compete with ATI and NVIDIA in the higher end.

GO TO THE LINK MAN!!!

He's talking about the TripleHead2Go: it uses your existing 3D card and expands it to three monitors.

ahhh, crap, sorry, i was thinking one of matrox's normal triple head vid cards :)

i had heard about this before i recall and the only down fall was the maximum 1024 x 768 res for each monitor, is a step in a right direction, let hope they beef it up some more.
