New Fan Controller

So this is a 5-OFF-12 switch, not like a rheostat... but you're right it does look pretty good, as long as those switches aren't more than ~1" long. If it could be kept rather low profile that'd be saweet. Go for it.

your right, that is an issue for me as my Panaflos will not always start at 5V...I prefer to run them at just over 7V

after all these years no1 makes a decent and affordable fan controller?

back to looking at the Zalman, but it is going to be maxed out with 3 of these on one channel

I prefer to controll all 3 fans on my radiator at once rather than run them seperately which would be dumb....I only really need 4 ports too no 6...

Heck I don't think this will controll my Case lighting because it may pull more than 7 watts at most:(

That leaves only the new sunbeam, but its hidious....
 
It's almost impossible to sink 60w on a varistor... Your best bet would be to use a 7v regulator that can handle up to 2A, and keep it at 7v constantly.
 
well I dont need 60 watts :p I jsut wanted something that I can hook 3 Panaplo L1A's on one knob to and not have it 1) burn out or 2) look like crap or 3) have really bright annoyig LED's that keep me awake at night like my 4 channel sunbeam

The product description specifies..."the switches use colored LEDs to show what state they are in! Blue indicates 5V, Red indicates 12V and neither LED is lit when the switch is off."

This one has 18W/1.5A capacity per channel so it would take three of those fans easily.

Unlike most such non rheostat controllers it seems to have actual output filtering making it behave similar to rheostat with all fans I've tested.
(no buzzing noises from some fans or fan refusing to lower RPM)

Resolder to 7V instead?

If so are the knobs on the new model removable (I want to paint the front panel completely black)

This one looks good mut my LED setup may draw up to around 12W, although it needs less to run I'm not sure how my current limiting circuit would draw from teh Fan Controller. It's just a simple LM317T in current regulation mode, which drops all eccess power as heat, but I don't know what kinda load it would actualy put in the fan controller.
