I am building an Eyefinity rig and happened to get 2 new in the box ASUS EYEFINITY 6 cards for $560. (Yes they were legally purchased I was even given the receipt from Newegg).

I then purchased the following, an ASUS P7P55 WS Supercomputer MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...sus_1156_supercomputer-_-13-131-594-_-Product

Corsair 750TX PSU from Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006&Tpk=corsair 750 tx

For a processor I have an I7-860 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115214&cm_re=i7-860-_-19-115-214-_-Product

Also to make things interesting I want to do PhysX with a Crossfired EYEFINITY setup. Has anyone here done this using an Nvidia card in their setup, and were the results acceptable over just the regular Physics http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...042&cm_re=galaxy_video-_-14-162-042-_-Product

Thanks for any input here.

I'm using my 8800GT with my 5870 running eyefinity. It works, but the 8800GT is not powerful enough for the high physx setting in Batman AA, only normal gpu physx...

There really aren't enough games that actually use physx to justify spending money on a card for it, much less the power consumption of said card.

Can anyone tell me if I need to install any additional drivers for the nvidia side?

If you use the latest nvidia beta drivers you should not need any hacks to use physx(so get that one).

I have read a little about this and yes there is a particular driver you need to install because Nvidia does NOT want you doing this. So they have crippled the drivers. There is one that is suppose to work but you have to hunt for it. I should be doing that now as the rest of my build from Newegg arrives tomorrow.

I'm not on the version of nvidia drivers that apparently accidentally allowed physx in a mixed branded gpu environment. I am using the GenL physx mod -- that's probably what you are looking for.

Physx appears to be working with my setup, with the latest Nvidia drivers, however the FPS is terrible. Mirrors edge slowed to a crawl and the starlight benchmark thing runs at like 10 FPS no clue whats wrong.

You can either use the PhysX driver hack for nvidia or the one "accidental" official released Nvidia driver. Works fine for me, I run Eyefinity x3 on my crossfire 5870 with a GTX275 as PhysX. Can play everything smooth, Fluidmark and Batman Arkham Asylum.

what driver set are you using on the nvidia side?

Its probably because the GPU isn't actually dong the PhysX, its probably being done on the CPU. You can enable PhysX without an nVidia card... it just runs like crap.

I've got 2 5870's in Crossfire, plus a 9800GTX for PhysX. I was unaware Nvidia had released any drivers that allowed the combination without a hack so I'll have to check out the hybrids.

I used the hack found in this thread with ATI's 10.5 & 10.6 drivers and Nvidia's 197.45's. Worked fine for me in Metro 2033. I don't have Batman AA so I cannot comment on it.

Mirrors edge does not work for me with nvidia physx + ati graphics (like < 5fps). Batman and Fluidmark worked, though.

Mirrors Edge never worked even on a standalone Nvidia card for me (GTX 275). During some PhysX scenes like smashed windows or curtains my FPS would dip to 5. It was unplayable, my guess is bad drivers or bad software.

It's actually a problem with Mirrors Edge, not the drivers. When it installs itself, it puts some very old PhysX DLL's in its game folder, which the game uses instead of the latest PhysX system software you've installed.

The fix is simple; navigate to "...\Mirror's Edge\Binaries\" and then delete "PhysXCore.dll" and "PhysXDevice.dll"

Mirrors Edge will now default to the latest PhysX system software on your system, and performance (as well as GPU accelerated physics) will be much much better.

WOW, I go away for a couple of days and on return I find the response to this has been tremendous. I appreciate each and everyone of them. I received my Newegg shipment yesterday and picked up a Corsair H50 unit. I will begin my build on this beast this evening. I just hope my Corsair 750TX can handle everything. I am starting a new post on an idea I have about that. It will be called "How do I setup Dual PSU's for a high end system?"

Thanks again!!!

The corsair 750 should work fine. My system pulls around 450watts when folding on 4 cores and the 8800GT and running fur mark on the 5870. I think you will be in good shape - that's w beast of a psu.

Hmm depends on what PhysX card you select. 5870 2GB cards consume more power than regular 5870s.
I think the 750 will handle those but would they also handle a physx card? I also don't know how hard you are going to OC those cards.

OK looks like about 500W at load for two 5870s in crossfire. But if you OC those cards at all your wattage will go up.
Add in a physx card like the GTS 250 and you're getting dangerously close to your max ceiling.

Yea I picked up the 257.15 beta driver that doesnt have the lock in place.

Tried out Metro 2033, and batman AA, and mirrors Edge....Not really sure why people think Nvidia physX is the future....

I mean You do see stuff extra stuff....but it's not game changing.

YMMV

vjcsmoke, this is from my original post.

I will be using the GT240.

DA****, I think we are doing it

1. because we can,
2. we want to see the extra stuff.

When they build these games they are working on MEGA-Machines. I want to see what they wanted to translate to us as much as I can. HOWEVER, I am not going to go out and get FIREGL's and everything else that would make my system equal to theirs, lol.

The next thing will be gaming 'holodeck' style

What card should I use not to bottleneck a dual 5870 2GB Eyfinity setup? I bought the GT240(which I can return) but it seems that that may not be fast enough.

What are you benchmarks. I am rethinking using the 240 as my Physx card. Did you just have the 275 laying around or did you deliberately get it for Physx

I'm using a GTX260 as my PhysX card, and it's holding its own very well.

You'll want at least a GTS250 to run Batman Arkham Asylum with PhysX set to "High." The scarecrow sections are especially harsh on your physics processor.

Yeah, It seems like the GTX260 is the sweetspot in terms of price/performance if you are using Manufactures Suggested Retail Pricing. The GTS 250's and under you can pickup on sale fairly cheaply. I got one at Frys for $50 after rebate, but they only have 128 shaders compared to the GTX 260 which has 216. That seems to be a huge jump between products which are next to each other in the product line but clearly in a different class.

240=96 shaders, 278/295 = 240 shaders, 9800GT = 112 shaders, 9800GTX+ = 128 shaders, 465 = 352 shaders
