Anyone has experience with gigabyte GA-7PESH3 [Rev.1.0] motherboard ?
I'm thinking on a new build for my main rig:
Main requirement:

  • start with one CPU, add second later
  • use the onboard LSI for RAID for ESXi
  • PfSense with dedicated NIC for WAN
  • mail server Inhouse
  • FreeBSD With ZFS on dedicated HBA passthrough
  • a folding VM to keep the box at 100%, GPU passthrough for NV cards ?
  • R for statistics
  • Blender for some casual rendering
  • system monitoring zabbix
  • Windows for playing around
  • maybe a BTC wallet

VMs are mainly Ubuntu and FreeBSD, would like to have one Windows 8 with passthrough GPU (dedicated keyboard/mouse via USB ?)

I have a similar system right now with a SM X9SCM... and Xeon 1240v2. W/o windows, blender and GPU passthrough and without ESXI secured on RAID

Would that work with ESXi 5.5; essential kit ... ?

That will all work except for the nvidia cards. You will need to go ati for gpu passthrough. Also with one CPU you will only have 4 of the 7 pcie slots available.
