New entry level Radeon 9550

Are we reading the same page? It comes as 128-bit, but like the SE on the 9600, the board makers have the option of making a 64-bit version (to save a few bucks, but personally I would never use a SE version)

This for sure buries the 9000 as obsolete, and should replace the 9200 as the low end card.

As long as this is the 9200 replacement, we're golden.

Even 64-bit bus, it should be faster. That core was getting REALLY long in the tooth. The 128-bit version ('Pro', I presume?) should really kick ATI into the entry level market in a big way.

Its gotta be better than the 9000/9200, they disgrace the entire ATI lineup.

True, and I don't think it has to be softmodded, it should hit 9600np speed with a simple OC. I hope they make them available with BGA Ram modules, as that would allow it to run at 9600 Pro/XT speed and we'll have a heck of a card their.

These two companies are givin me a headache, i think they choose a name for the high end, a new name for the mid end, and one for the low end. To better explain what i mean, call the high end python, mid end rattler, and low eed garden snake. That way when you say "garden snake 5000" You know they're talking about the low end. (and not trying to confuse the consumer into thinking a radeon 9550 is faster than the 9500)

On the plus side theres only 1000 numbers between 9000 and 10000, so they must be running out here soon :D

both ati and nvidia need to stop naming inferior cards with higher product numbers/names. I know the numbers designate which card came first (usually), but most people think the numbers = its performance.

Yeah, IMO it should have been named 9300 or 9400.

Unless they managed to put something new in it (which it does not sound like)

Still, its not anywhere near as bad as the 4200-4600 to the FX 5200. As we all know how well the 5200 does against its older cards.
